In a little under a week from now, it will be our wedding anniversary and I have been put in charge of organizing something for us to do. The problem is, there really isn't that much going on next Saturday, so I am not sure what to do. The day before is our daughter's birthday also, which means we will spend time celebrating that too, though we will organize a "party" later, when we have some furniture and a fully-functioning kitchen.

We got married in 2015, so this is our 6th anniversary and the *present* is "wood". I have an idea about what to give her, but I don't think she will consider it a gift. Over the last year and a half of renovation work, I think we have definitely spent a fair amount on wood and there is plenty more to go before we are truly done, but none of that counts as an anniversary present. 

So, I am at a bit of a loss as to what we are going to do, but after the strange summer we have gone through this year, I think both of us should do something together. The grandparents are taking our daughter for the night, so at least we should get to sleep in for once, since she tends to wake up far too early for tired, old parents. 

These days though, material presents don't seem to hold much value in our lives, unless they bring some kind of utility to our lives in some way. Other than what we need for the house, there is nothing that really stands out and with things still pretty tight financially, I don't think unneeded luxuries are on the cards this year either.

I am sure I will think of something, even if I don't know what yet. I enjoy buying things for people and trying to work out something they will like. I am not very good at it, but I like trying :)

Our daughter on the other hand knows exactly what she wants for her birthday and has some specific requests, including a party outside with candles and lanterns, and a raspberry cake. The cake we can do, but the outside party might be a bit of an issue considering that it might be pouring down with rain like it is now. For an almost five year old, they are decent asks. We are still unsure what to actually get her though, but she gets so much from other people that ours would likely blend into the background - as something boring. Though I will have a look around for a logic board game she might enjoy. 

But, since I have one more week of sick leave before going back to work and the Olympics are over, I have some time to head into the city, take a wander and see if inspiration strikes. One thing I don't like these days, is so much of the things people get for each other end up being bought online, rather than going out and "hunting and gathering" for something special. 

I have a few doctors appointments upcoming, including my first speech therapy session, but since I have another week of sick leave to go, I will have some time to go searching in the city and perhaps inspiration will strike, or I will chance upon something perfect. 

Since it is us, *close enough* will do.
