It is interesting how some people maintain relevance in this life these days, especially online. For the most part, the go-to move is to create some noise, some drama - something that tries to get a bit of attention and eyes to turn - kind of like street theater. The problem comes when those walking by don't care for the display and find it uninteresting, boring and tiring - the same old moves on loop - a skipping record, playing a tune to which no one cares to listen. 

Relevance *is* interesting.

We are social animals and as such, we want the attention of others. Online it might often be the attention of strangers, the eyes of the "public" as they sit behind their screens - alone. It is kind of a strange world we live in now. Sometimes the attention one wants is to impress the eyes of one only, to try and gain their affection by doing what they suggest, what is thought they'd like - like an experienced man telling a pretty girl what he thinks she wants to hear. 

I think this need for attention so many have is due to the loneliness from the online world we have created, surrounded by millions, sitting as an individual in the dark. It is no wonder so many get attached to social media so heavily as they try to fill that void, connect with people, yet never realize that who they are trying to impress will likely never be more than strangers. We feed off each other in many ways and attention seekers create a circuit, the metaphorical pretty girl gets to hear how pretty she is from all the men in the bar, and all the men feel that they have a chance - as they do not see all of the others courting - they feel special and unique - no matter how insignificant they actually are - just another virtual free drink.

We have pushed for individualism in this world and it is exactly what we have created, individuals, *disconnected* individuals who feel both in control as they get to pick and choose from an endless supply of options, and irrelevant as the social connection humans require are strained to the point of non-existence. It is no surprise to me at how the depression rates in the young keep climbing, as the social fabric that used to be developed in those ages has become so thin and transparent, it no longer keeps the skin warm.

So, they look to create a fire and head out into the kindling that is online interaction and spark a flame, believing that if they can get it hot enough, it will warm them for longer than a night. But it never does, as there is always another drama out there and each adds to the drama mass and desensitizes the *public* even further - there is always someone better, always someone more topical in the moment, the competition in the drama space is fierce - and those who play the game will quickly find that no matter how relevant they once were, the game will continually change and squeeze them out. 

We see it time and time again with those who want to be the material girl, a journey of continual reinvention - the problem is, most are not that talented nor imaginative and once habit sets in - the drama that was once so confrontational and attractive - is passe and no longer interesting enough to raise an eyebrow. I don't know if the internet will ever grow up, but I do know that many grow tired of the immaturity and move on. Perhaps that is when people actually start living.
