The temperature in our house has now dropped even further, as the "repair" job done yesterday evening, didn't repair anything. Smallsteps had to sleep at her grandparent's place, because it is just too cold here for a small child. This morning, it was 12°C (53°F) inside, and that is with the fireplace burning. In other parts of the house, it is colder. So, we called *again* for the millionth time and asked for a specific servicer to come out, who was able to sort things before Christmas, when we were having issues.

The problem is that three years ago, they didn't install what we bought. Yes... that is right. It is a completely different machine, and one that is not suitable for this size of house, when the weather gets this cold. Not only that, the outdoor unit is also too small for this size of house.  However, it is currently only heating two-thirds of the place, and *we specifically* checked that it would be large enough to cover the entire house, once we heat the basement.

If they had installed the correct one, we supposedly wouldn't be having this issue at all, so he recommended (he is a service person) to make a reclamation on the machine. However, it takes *weeks* to get a new machine from Germany. In the meantime, they are meant to have some part that will fix it enough for now, but they said that might take a week to get the part and have someone install it.  

So, the nice service guy went and rented some heating blowers as an interim solution to heat the house, which was nice. The problem is, one went on, the second went on, and then it blew the circuit breaker, as it was drawing too much electricity.

My wife called the company again, and after some discussion about hotels and broken pipes, they miraculously had a cancellation and will bring people in from a few hundred kilometers away, to install it tomorrow. 

However, this isn't the end of it, because we still have the wrong machine and it still isn't going to do what it must, which is heat 300m², not the 200m² it is currently heating. And, it has to work in Finnish conditions, where at least once a year, there is a period or two of very cold weather.

I don't get how we are having this kind of "luck" with these things. I have mentioned this to my wife before, but even she today has been bringing it up, that we seem to get the short straw so many times, across so many things. It doesn't matter if we do "the right things" and our due diligence, it doesn't matter if we take precautions, we seem to consistently *get burned.*

There is no lesson here to learn, other than perhaps that regardless of what befalls us, we still have things to, so the *very cold* Finnish saying fits;

>Tee, tai itke ja tee. 

*Do, or cry and do.*

We haven't cried yet, mainly because if we do, the tears will freeze onto our eyelashes and they will fall off. So, we have just had to do. I might see if Smallsteps and my wife can go to the neighbors for the evening though, because it is not very pleasant to be inside here at the moment. However, someone has to make sure that the fire keeps burning, so if I sit close enough to it, I can cry alone without the tears freezing.

Perhaps it would be cathartic, but I prefer to write instead.

On the bright side, I will probably meet up with a couple colleagues from work for a burger, which means I can be in the warmth of the car and a bar for a few hours at least, and meet one of my goals for 2024 of a face-to-face meeting every week. Not only that, I also talked to a friend on the phone for a bit too, so that is one down and two to go for the week.
