Every time I read your post I though to write my first impressions... most of the time they flight and time pass... 
What a lovely way to spend family day! It’s so sweet that Smallsteps got to enjoy her own little adventure with the alpacas and the jumping castle while the grown-ups toured the factory. It sounds like everyone had fun in their own way—and of course, hotdogs always help! 😄

I especially love how much joy Smallsteps finds in the small things, from bunnies last year to pineapples this year. That tiny pineapple plant is such a perfect detail—tropical and full of hope, even if it *is* trying to survive in one of the coldest corners of the world. Her picking out the perfect pot for it really shows how much she cares, even if the reality of plant parenthood has already started setting in. 🍍I remember how exciting was always to see grow up plants in my childhood. 

And block-out curtains for a 3:00 am sunrise? Sounds very Finnish indeed. 
Hopefully the lavender thrives soon and the wind decides to calm down long enough for that barbecue day you’re dreaming of. 
It looks like Summer in Finland can be magical when it finally arrives...

Cherish those little moments—they grow faster than any indoor pineapple. 🌿

Part of why I'm building the backyard of the bakery out to be a kid-friendly community-center-like space is because my workers have kids, too. We try to make it as easy as possible for them to bring them to work in a way that they can have fun without being glued to the screen anyway, but I think a sand box, a trampoline and a swing will add to that. 

I miss Ikea. Dang. That hurts to say. But just running into a shop and finding what you need - after years of running around towns, running from one mini-shop to the next and never finding something similar enough to get, ending up to have it made by a carpenter just to wait 3 more weeks after being told it will be ready in one.... Yeah, I rather do furniture-lego with the occasional missing piece.

I think family day events at work are exciting for family members as they get to visit the workplace and see how things are done to some degree. Those alpacas are so lovely; I like their color. It's interesting to see whether the pineapple survives as indoor plant.    

My dad used to work in a factory and once a year they would have a day where families could come like this. I remember it was always really impressive and we had to wear safety glasses and stuff like that.  It's cool that they still do stuff like this.

Kids tend to choose things with no clue how much care they’ll need. Still, that’s kinda how we all learn, anyways. Maybe there's magical hope that one day in a multiverse that pineapple will be edible 

I think you really have an awesome sunny day spending time with your wife and family. I just loved these alpacas, they are literally so cute. I think you'll be able to enjoy the barbecue grill soon!

I love the idea of bringing people close to you to your workplace. I wonder if kids would find mine exciting since I work remotely as an editor 😅 I’m pretty sure they’d find my old job more fun (teaching kids) 😂

Hope the pineapple thrives inside! I saw one at my grandma’s place in the province and wanted to take it home too. It was so pretty! Can’t blame Smallsteps for picking it 😂

I really hope you have a sunny day perfect for a barbecue this summer because hot weather with family and friends has a special with irreplaceable flavor.

By th way, In East Asian medicine, pork barbecue is considered very bad for stroke.
Foods that are good for treating stroke include strawberries, avocados, spinach, and walnuts.

Your daughter’s clearly the optimistic type. I’d struggle to keep a cactus alive in this weather. At least alpacas come pre adapted to the cold

May Smallsteps find jobs with alpacas and bunnies and four leaf clovers, and may everyday be a BBQ day for you.

Can somewhat relate, we've had some pretty miserable summers where it was too cold to hit the beach.  And this is here.  Hope you get some good barbeque days :)

Our daughter is super into alpacas. She has a collection of soft alpacas from real alpacas fur. 

There is nothing good then seeing family together doing for excursions or sightseeing. I'm sure this experience will stay with you forever and likewise your inlaw too. This is really lovely family day. I also like how Smallsteps got to enjoy the alpacas and even picked a pineapple plant. Hope the weather gets better for your barbecue. 

In St. Petersburg, pineapples were grown in greenhouses in the 1730s. Perhaps, with lighting, pineapples could be grown in Finland too.

Also, nurturing a plant can be such a rewarding experience for her, and some of plants require more care than expected :)
