I feel like I haven't written about Hive *in forever,* since I have been travelling the last week or so and now catching up with my family this weekend. But, it seems I missed a discussion on changing the APR on HBD in the savings wallet.

This is nice! And something I have discussed with several people over the last year of DeFi hype, as it really does make a difference on whether to hold or not. I put the 4K of HBD I had back into savings as I had taken it out a couple weeks ago to see if there was a better use for it - which was probably going to be to buy Hive anyway. 

# Liq Me

What I wonder and have discussed in the past though, is if the HBD is in there already, it is halfway to being a liquidity pool and essentially it could be utilized as one in various ways to attract more APR or, some other token to it. If the pool is large enough and returns well enough, it will also help in providing additional price stability, though it would require a bit of additional coding.

20% APR means that it will return 200 HBD per 1000 in a year, so with 4200 currently in there, it will return 840 HBD a year or, 2.3 HBD per day. That might not seem like much, but back when I started five years ago, that is more than most of my posts would get.

# Learn to Earn

Someone asked me the other day about the best way to learn and it really is through participation. Some think that if they read or watch enough, they will eventually get to the point they will have the skill to dive in - they will be ready. However, it is like school, all those hours of reading books are largely *meaningless* for the career ahead, but the on the job training and the experience through actually performing the work, brings all those little lessons together to compound and matter. 

For those who want to earn more, they are going to have to invest and that likely includes some money also. Investing is very much a "skin in the game" opportunity and while the skin doesn't always have to be fiat, it does have to be something. People should see money as a tool, resource or an energy that can be utilized to power what they want, rather than something that they want directly. But, all resources are like this and in order to make the most out of them, we have to use them in effective ways that will make a difference. Don't be fooled though, it is *easier said than done.*

#  Is it a Grind? 

I think that over the last five years, I have averaged 12-15 hours of "work" a day, 7 days a week, 365 a year. This is not just on Hive of course, but it does make up a large percentage of the time I spend and crypto-related activity is probably 95% of my internet time, including watching Netflix at night with my wife. Lowballing, that is 21,000+ hours spent working in total, which is two full time jobs.

I thought I was going along pretty well until the stroke last year (which was not related to the work in any way), because since then, I have been "struggling" to get back into the groove. I have been working just as much, but there is less flow, which means the "time energy" I have is being spent, but I am using it less effectively than I was earlier. Everything takes longer, including learning how something works, or predicting how a change in one factor is going to affect the larger dynamics in play. 

But, it *isn't a grind* because I enjoy what I do, which I think is why it is possible to maintain this pace for such a long period of time, no matter what is going on in my life outside. Work is a means to an end to live a life, but simultaneously an escape from life at times. There are multiple reasons for me to work and they are far more compelling than the reasons *not to work.* It seems that a lot of people look for any excuse not to put effort in, but I feel that they are not accurately evaluating the reasons they should, because if they did, most of the excuses crumble to dust.

# Write Again

What is the best way to learn? Well, in my opinion it is to participate and than consolidate and solidify what has been gathered through writing. Back at school they would want answers "in your own words" and this is actually a pretty decent way to make what has been learned, personal. To be able to take what is learned and package it for others for them to understand it too, takes the process one step further and in time, rather than repetition of what is learned, it becomes a creative process of innovation.

There are quite a few accounts here that spend their time trawling the internet for content and then repeating it in their own words, but not many of those add any original thought of their own. It is mostly regurgitated content, packaged to make them sound lie they have experience that they don't actually possess. Can this earn? *Yes.* But my god *(if I believed in a god),* I would be bored brainless in no time - I don't know how they do it day in and day out and then, still look at themselves in the mirror.

# Many Paths

But, this is the thing with it, as just like all the sliding doors of life, Hive also has many potential paths to take that lead to all kinds of outcomes. What is near certain though, is that if a person isn't willing to invest their time, energy and money into their journey here or in any other experience in life, their chances of being successful are slim to none. It really isn't rocket science to work this out, but it might be more complicated to build personal processes and a mindset that enables that journey to be started, as well as have the resilience and fortitude to keep going, even when things get difficult. 

Using resources is easy.
Using resources well... 
Well, *that's another matter entirely.*

It is often said that after someone breaks up,

Perhaps. But how many of them are suitable, available and willing to be hooked?

Scarcity can be engineered. So can abundance.
Your potential is yours to utilize or to waste.

markymark had a post about the 20% interest level, something he and gtg were discussing if I remember the post correctly. The comments were pretty evenly split when I read the post between good and bad for Hive. I hope the Good side wins out, and I guess we will see in about a month. I still hope to continue adding to my HBD savings.

You inspire me a lot @tarazkp 

The way you link your experiences to real life situations and then back to happenings on hive is quite unique..

The 20% APR increase in HBD Savings is a great development. It's more like a stop-and-save-you-dimwit kinda approach. It'll encourage a lot more people to hodl HBD and also benefit from hodling it. 

I'm looking forward to more returns when resume saving, it promises to bring back juicy returns.

I have no excuse whatsoever on my path, it takes a lot of hardwork to earn something really worthwhile.

I write what I know-ish and play where I can - life should be fun, shouldn't it? It doesn't mean easy though. 

There are plenty of people I come across in life who are continually looking for the easy path, and continually complaining as their life gets harder - they never stop to ask why this is the case.

Exactly, people need to learn to strike a balance.. I watch animes or play video games when I'm not on hive..helps me relax my brain.

I was one of those people before I found hive. . I've never really had to push myself as I have on hive except in school and I'm sure I got to know about it at the right time..it's not too late to grow and channel that energy into making better investments..

I started staking too when it was 10% because it is much better-fixed savings interest than what we usually get in bank deposit and in less than 6 months' time it has doubled and will continue to save more and more.

I also transferred my first Hive Dollars (HBD) to savings, when its interest was 10% APR. And now it is 20% APR. If this will work in long term, then the interest of the Hive Dollars (HBD) will help more and more people's lives. I am very excited about this.

To be honest, I am considering a smaller (or bigger) cashout after receiving the interest of this month.

Nowadays I am earning a little bit more than $10 HBD interest per month, which is very good money in Hungary, but I am considering the cashout, because I could buy various things to improve my life. For example new antenna for my radioamateur transceiver, battery for portable operation, etc. And I am also planning to power up some Hive, so I will sell a few Hive Dollars (HBD) for Hive.

Hive is really making the life of its users better.

The 20% APR is awesome which I believe many would start saving the HBD for future purposes with the benefits involved which is really meaningful with a better profits with more HBD been staked.

That's the beauty part of being in the platform in other for one to earn you need to learn as no knowledge is lost to achieve more ideas of how the system works especially investing which is the main priority of participating in the blockchain in other for you to have something to show for in the nearest future that will be beneficial in a positive state.

The move up to 20% APR for [Hive Backed Dollars (HBD)](https://leofinance.io/@crypto-guides/what-are-hive-backed-dollars-hbd) in savings sort of snuck up on us, didn't it!

There was plenty of suggestions and a few rumblings going around the LeoFinance community, but I had no idea that the witnesses were actually considering it until this weekend.

Anyway, I'm super happy to see it happen.

An algorithmic stablecoin, backed by a truly decentralised blockchain (yes that was a dig at Do Kwon's Terra), offering 20% APR is REAL news.

Surely one or two actual crypto journalists pick this story up and start to run with it.

Purely from a marketing point of view, it could be huge.

We have a pretty amazing, almost romantic story here on Hive and it deserves to be organically told.

Hopefully this is the start :)

I like the HBD increase but 20% makes the math a bit harder to think about without resorting to a calculator. Before it was about 1% per month but now it's more. 

Either way, the best way to learn is to do the task yourself. It's not that easy for me to write blogs but I do find it much easier to comment on what others have talked about. Maybe it's because the topic is already there.

Thanks to you, I too have missed out on the APR for HBD. Gosh, 20% is a lot! As I am attempting to accumulate wealth in here, I can't help but wonder if cashing out one day would be a problem. Just wondering if you have ever attempted to cash out, just to see if it works?

I think @leofinance as well as your space is a really great way to learn! I am literally learning something pretty much every single day in this space! However, there might be a problem for HIVE blockchain, which is powering down HP to convert HBD. I don't think that a lot of users will do that because some users would like to get curation rewards in seven days rather than montly interest payout.

Your review is very straightforward and enlightening for everyone Mr. Taraz @tarazkp. 

True, everyone has potential, as we have discussed. The problem is when someone doesn't know how to take advantage of and empower their potential to benefit others, then if they are appreciated by others, it will produce results.

But for me, producing something is only a bonus that I receive, because for myself, what is more important is how my potential should be able to benefit the lives of those around me. 

I totally agree with your concept that "Experience through actually doing the work" is best for almost everyone.

Like me, I have no knowledge at all about the basics of economics and cryptocurrencies. But since it has become mainstream in today's world, I took the stance of having to study it and am currently limping along with the process going on about it.
