Potentially Bullish
<div class="text-justify">

>If you were to maximize your earning potential, what would you be worth?

I was thinking about this a little after writing an article last night, and wondered what kind of position I might have been in financially, had I been more aggressive towards earning. There is a much larger side to this in terms of fiat world earning with investment opportunities not taken, as well as work being turned down. But I think the biggest opportunity I likely had throughout my life was supplementing income with a second job.

![image.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/tarazkp/23wgBEHoBRewtjh2vhPYbye79Tr9Dc1cZ8EJcBXUfcQLRY8ju7rVZ1FTtvMj9NPLmdzT9.png)

>This is a lesson I should have learned early, because I have often had a second job.

Even when I was working fulltime at McDonald's, I had another job on the side media monitoring. It was fantastic money (for me) for a few hours of work weekly, but I took it for granted. Rather than using it to invest, I just saw it as another tap to spend. The difference those couple years could have made to my life today, might have been significant, because had I invested, once I decided to stay in Finland permanently, I would have had a deposit to buy an apartment, rather than struggling with rent for five years first.

>Opportunity missed.

What I have learned since is that not many people are interested in having a second job for additional income, unless absolutely necessary. Even then, people put it off for as long as they can as *having to have* a second job feels like being a failure. But, there is a difference between needing and choosing, and especially for the young, my advice is, work while you can, as that opportunity to supercharge the start of your financial health and benefit from more years of compounding returns, isn't always available.

>We can't go back in the past.

Once passed, the potential is gone forever, and we only ever have the potential that lays ahead of us. Thinking about this a little further, if I was to consider what is the most important thing for my family right now, it would be financial security, as this impacts on so many aspects of our lives. Not just the things we want now, but also into the future, as I believe things like education are going to become increasing costs in Finland, as governments won't cover as they do now. Most people aren't preparing for this.

So, if I am going to maximize my earning potential, I also have to think about the costs, which means evaluating what I am willing to do, and go without. For instance, a second job takes time away from family, so how much am I willing to give up and what impact does that have on them, and our relationships.

This is why Hive is a good second or third source of income, because it is something I can do on the side and when I am able, which is generally after my daughter has gone to sleep, or in between other work tasks when I would normally be taking a break. And the other benefit is that payment comes in the form of an investment directly, whether that comes in the form of HIVE POWER which increases stake and voting potential, or HBD which can be traded into HIVE or put into savings for a 20% ROI.

Just imagine if the fiat salary was put into a similar wallet at payday, and then it was earning 20% on what was in there whilst it wasn't needed. Drawing on it in pieces as required throughout the month. Even if needing *all of the salary,* the return would be significant.

>For instance, if the salary was 4000 net and that was earning 20% in a wallet, but 1000 was needed each week, the first week the approximate daily return would be 2 dollars, the second week it would be 1.50, the third week 1, the fourth week 0.50. That would amount to ~420 a year, but require no more than a month investment at any one time. That might not sound like much, but it is around a 1% increase in net income, which is significant.

Note: I used 4000 as it was easier to calculate in my head, but the percentage is the same for any amount. And, it is also good to note that the 420 if rolled into the wallet would add another 84 on top, so the following year doing the same thing, it would return 500 extra in interest, and the following year it would be an extra 604. Not too bad for almost no risk.

I have worked *very hard* at developing this side income over the last six years, because the more I participated, the ore I realized what the future potential is worth. But, future potential is zero if daily potential isn't used. And each day we all have the opportunity to use our time in various ways, whether that be learning, acting, or consuming. What is valuable to pay attention to on any given day is personal, and each of us value, or are willing to forego or not different aspects of life.

>No one need do what I do and many might laugh at my stupidity.

I am okay with that. Because in the same vein, there are a lot of people out there who are complaining about the economic situation, but are too embarrassed to get themselves a second job. Or, they "value their time" more highly than they value their financial health. Nothing wrong with that, but I do believe most of us should review how we spend our time and whether what we get in return for the trade is worth it.

We look at the markets and talk about bulls and bears, but I wonder if we were to look at through our jobs and potential sources of income, are we generally bullish or bearish on our earning potential? At least for me, while I earn okay in my work, I also know that there is a relatively low salary cap on the roles I am suitable for and the jobs themselves won't likely last for ever, because nothing does. This means that supplementary incomes aren't just valuable for the additional income to improve financial security, they are vital.

I wish this wasn't the case and I wish that I didn't have to think about financial health at all, but that is the position I am in and pretty much everyone I know is in a similar position. Writing about it, discussing it, and acting toward it, help develop the mindset and processes, as well as the motivation to move forward and claim some of that previously untapped potential. Doing this hopefully helps others too and that way, many can benefit and, we are all collectively worth more.

I buy the idea of working while we are strong and vibrant and not depending on just one source of income.

I love to Hive but sometimes I get exhausted when I am back from work, but because of the love, I find my way around and it's been helpful, it's like a side hustle that comes in handy.

This was a great read, thanks for sharing

Geographical latitude drastically conditions the need for many families to work for both men and women, and there are those who rush from one job to another or do it remotely; all are valid. I am not comparing the idea that a second job is synonymous with failure, it is necessity.

But sometimes we get caught up in having unnecessary things or living dreams implanted by the marketing of fierce commerce. We forget the essential, LIVING. My father, since I was very young, always told us “never spend the money you haven't earned yet”, I know many people who owe even their underwear.

The common denominator is that we do not know how to enjoy what we have, to live the short years that life gives us, and to prepare ourselves for our departure. We run at a desperate trot to have and have, to fatten our coffers, and when we are buried by chance we take some clothes with us.

>Financial mechanics were made to enslave man rather than to meet his needs.

I am not sure about this. This might be the way it runs now however. Without the financial mechanisms, humans are still humans and life would be survival of the fittest again, tribal wars. Moving to money means that the fittest is determined by more than physical prowess. The problem isn't the money, it is what we incentivize with it.

I've done work on the side pretty much all my adult life, but it has never been consistent enough that I would be able to make something of it. Not regularly anyway. Usually I just put that money into savings. It's so infrequent that you can't even budget for it. I understand what you are saying here though. I agree that many people see needing a second job as a sign of failure.

What I have decided is that with my bonuses and extra money, half of it is going to go straight into our mortgage. The other half will be to enjoy or invest.

> there are a lot of people out there who are complaining about the economic situation

I don't blame a lot of people now a days. Pandemic kind of changed me. I used to be nerdy and intellectual who used to assume " they should do this and that". But more I work offline among people, more I realize that non tech people tend to suffer life differently than tech people do. As they are not exposed to solutions and pattern to reach solution the same way we do.

Geez, this article is like an alarm bell sounding in my mind! It's been over 4 months now that I have been without regular employment and it is really started to take its toll on my mental wellbeing. Funds are getting really tight, I am near the end of my personal savings, and I still have no clue what I should be doing with this next step in my life.

I can fall back to teaching in the classroom, but here in American public schools, it feels so self-defeating because the students are set up for failure -- not success. Maybe I should do something in real estate like my grandfather, father, and sister all do in one way or another. Or maybe try to benefit from the master's degree in finance that I barely achieved and never used? I've already spent the last 4 months looking at picking up more copywriting and copyediting jobs since that is the work I had been doing most recently with Cointelegraph and Moon Lvnding, but to no avail have I been able to find suitable work. At this point, I'd settle for just about anything that would allow me to earn $25/hr in the short-term while I figured out this next step. All I hear is that there are plenty of jobs out there for people who are ready to work, but somehow I can't seem to find any of the ones that are right for me.

I feel we never know. I am still a kid working it all out! :D However, I also think that when uncertain, action is better than waiting in this regard, as we are able to get into something and test it, perhaps leading to something we never expected.

>All I hear is that there are plenty of jobs out there for people who are ready to work, but somehow I can't seem to find any of the ones that are right for me.

As above. There might be some that are obviously wrong, but what is obviously right? Seems very hard to make that call, so just take a swing and see where the ball goes. At the very least, you might meet some cool people!

I am glad that I write posts every day. That makes my earning potential much greater. Perhaps one day some whale will notice me. At least that possibility is bigger now when I don't take breaks.
 Also cool photo.

I'm still building this side hussle here on Hive, although I don't see it as another income stream, at least yet.
Everything I invest or reinvest from author rewards are not to be touched until full-adoption (ok semi-adoption would be great too 😀).
I will not touch any of my Hive investments (these are gaming-assets as well as HP/HBD earnings) until the end of the bull run after this one. So end of 2029.
I hope my patience will be rewarded, but my plan is simple.
Build and reinvest.

in 24/25ish, it might be useful to sell and buy back also - though it is the buy back part most people have trouble with. By 2029, I want to be a solid whale here and hopefully, that will be when this is adopted, so it is meaningful :)

Yeah, I want to make the trade as well, but not to pull Hive out, but to hold significantly more after the trade to put it back in.

Being a whale by 2029 is also my long-term goal but I guess, yours is much more realistic than mine.

It's a fact that money is used every single day and unless you got enough money to not care, it's hard to not to worry about money. We might have all lost out on opportunities and I first learned about BTC when it was like $20 but I didn't buy or mine any. The most we can do is move on and try the best we can because nobody likes being financially reliant on their jobs.

> What I have learned since is that not many people are interested in having a second job for additional income, unless absolutely necessary.

I just picked up a side job (minimal pay) for both the experience and a small portion of money. The doc that I'm working under is studying some pretty cool stuff and allows me to be super-flexible in the hours I can put in work.

I need to work on the problem on other side of the coin. I stack on too much work and when I can breathe I try to quickly replace it with more work.

You're right that we should look our earning potential rather than focus on bullish and bearish, hive is good because we can do at any time at any place there's no boundaries of time.

I'm amazed to know that you're also take financial support from hive, but your HP is too high, i always think that maybe you never get withdrawal of your earnings from hive...... 😺

The attitude of most of the inhabitants of our planet, who think only of themselves, is interesting. When I make decisions, I think about my son, who is twelve, and his son and their other children... I don't necessarily get everything I want. I consider my son's education to be the best investment for the future that I will not live to see.
