Power to the owners
<div class="text-justify">

Patience, resilience, financial literacy and value being part of a community - these are some of the things people mentioned when answering [what important things have they learned from Hive.](https://hive.blog/hive-173737/@tarazkp/what-is-one-of-the-most-important-things-you-have-learned-from-hive) I think the last one is *vital* for our future, not just on Hive, but as society in general.

https://images.hive.blog/768x0/https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/tarazkp/QEnztujf-OI000622.jpg

Community used to matter far more than it has for a long time as without it, survival was difficult. Essentially, humans have always lived in some kind of community setup, with small tribes making way for ever larger groups as we began to wander less and settle more. The ability to grow food rather than hunt and gather meant that job roles changed and new services sprang into existence, jobs that were far narrower than previously, jobs that relied on others to do a range of supportive tasks up or down the - *production line.* A fisher fished, but in order to have grain, they needed the farmer to grow. This resulted in trade.

Fast forward a few thousand years and we have specialized ourselves to such a degree that we need thousands or millions of participants doing various tasks for us to live our lives and, we no longer know who we are dealing with, we have no visibility on even the people who produce the staples of our diet. *Everyone is a stranger.*

Yet, we continually get into conflicts with the strangers without having any understanding of how they fit into our world, our economy and whether their hands played a role in facilitating our lives. We look at other countries and pass judgement, whilst simultaneously using products sourced or manufactured in those countries, hoping to get them cheaper, faster and more of them. Is it hypocritical in some way?

But if we are paying attention to what is going on in the world with all of the various social movements online and rioting in the streets off, we can see the disconnection, we can see that people are so looking to be part of something, *anything* will do - and instead of the best of us coming out, we are seeing a lot of the worst. Maybe it is to be expected when we are floating free, disconnected, partitioned off in little boxes from others, self-isolated and fearful of the world outside, the world we know through the highly manipulated media, mass distributed and designed to do just what it has - separate, polarize and fragment society to make us more manageable, less likely to band together and combine our resources effectively.

But perhaps through this current social turmoil we will start to discover the game we have unwittingly been playing, or more accurately, the game where we got played. Personally, I think that Hive is a facet of the awakening of a global society, one where rather than being owned and operated by the tiny minority, we become owners and operators ourselves.

This doesn't take come easily, it isn't an action with an over night result, it isn't going to arrive without work and it isn't going to be accomplished alone. It is going to take many to have - *Patience, resilience, financial literacy and value being part of a community.*

The value of a community is being able to solve problems larger than an individual can do themselves, to be able to solve many problems simultaneously. For a couple of decades, the internet has continued to close the distance of information and has begun to close the distance between people - but where it is heading now is into the next phase, where communities from every walk of life are able to not only form, but become economic participants in ways that were impossible to scale at anytime in our history as a species.

Power goes to the owners - so we must all take ownership.

Taraz

Right now it feels as if we are in a ***Feral*** stage of society and community. We are loaded and hyped up on fear, on caution, and frozen in place like a deer caught in headlights.

We are afraid of the smallest noise, of speaking because we may be found in our hiding place. It takes time, trust, effort, and help to overcome the feral stage. I hope we are able to quickly pass through this stage, and for a new society to grow from the lessons of the past and today.

Social media has brought us closer together yet created a certain distance between us. People only posting 'perfect' pictures and expensive lifestyle for the sake of keeping up appearances and not to feel left out. Cyber bullying on the rise. I just feel like we talk about it soo much but nothing has been done in the real sense. Perhaps as you said, it won't happen overnight. Patience is key

> Power goes to the owners - so we must all take ownership.

Yep. Good and bad.

From where I sit, I see signs of hope in the unrest that is taking place here in the US. I was a teenager when the Voting Rights Act of 1964 was signed. It left a mark. It didn't make things perfect, but there was a fundamental change. 55 years later I think I see the signs of another fundamental change. I certainly hope so.

Which doesn't in anyway diminish the position of Hive in the landscape of humanity. It is a chance to 'rise up' and move to another level of awareness and ownership. People here get it-they, we, are responsible for what we become. Will it be driven by fear and greed or love and tolerance? I strongly suspect that both extremes will come into play but which one will dominate? I know what I'm hoping for.

Thanks for another one of those great 'thinking posts'. Always appreciated.

I see the potential, but the difference this time around is whether people are willing to focus and commit - or will it just be another fad.

>I strongly suspect that both extremes will come into play but which one will dominate? I know what I'm hoping for.

It is going to get interesting, but hopefully we will start to see that working together (even in a decentralized sense) has more benefits than as individuals.

Yes I would say it's hypocritical, but it's easy when we are so distracted and disconnected. It's crazy that we are in an era were we all have access to so much and so many people. Yet so many people feel alone.

Block chain will change all facets of economics. Hive is an attention economy. Where the more you contribute, and the more attention you get. The more you are rewarded. Like a social media platform, only it's not the company deciding where to place advertisements and who to pay because they bring traffic. It's the shareholders.

If we can't organize ourselves as individuals, what chance do we have to move en masse?

>Yet so many people feel alone.

I agree - it is the largely due to the incentivized productization of ourselves, making us all disposable and replaceable. Why commit to what you will throw away, or to what you know will throw you away?

Hive has a lot of potential to be a core part of the blockchain revolution - a hub for the people that connects them to many other facets of the economy, including each other.

This is what makes hive special. Sure there are communities that have formed around certain projects. But generally the technology of blockchain allows for trustless transactions. The blockchain doesnโ€™t care who you are. So money can be made by everyone.

On hive we see the next step, not the technology defines the community, but itโ€™s the other way around. Communities form around a central topic, idea, dream, hobby etc. And the value of that community is tokenized.

Community has always had an economic component, it just wasnโ€™t registered and readable before. Now on hive, for the first time any community can know its own value in a currency that can be traded for any other currency.

That to me is astonishing and the greatest experiment of our time.

I hope so too, or at least that more people will realize that they have a choice.

Some will probably still prefer the smooth operating applications that look nice.

The internet needed about 20 years to penetrate every part of society.

Hive hasnโ€™t reached its first decade yet, so the coming years sounds very interesting to watch and be part of.

It takes a community to raise a block-chain :-)

It seems so easy to get by in life without a community, but that's an illusion. the people who can get by in life completely cut off of others is a rare occurrence (although I did watch a video on one such family living in Siberia) Sure, we like to think we can, some of us, but that's just not wanting to admit that we need each other in way form or another.

I'm not an outgoing person - a true introvert - but I do enjoy being a part of the Hive community.

I heard that there is no one on earth who can make a ballpoint pen from start to finish, it is just too complicated and crosses too many fields of study. I wonder how many people are actually self-sufficient entirely.

>I'm not an outgoing person - a true introvert - but I do enjoy being a part of the Hive community.

One of the benefits of this space, is even an introvert can do well ;)

I did not answer your question in your previous post coz I did not know how to frame what I am learning from Hive. I guess I was trying to say that I also value being part of the community but did not know which angle to approach it from.

I am not sure how this platform will unfold in the immediate or distant future. As readers mentioned in those comments, I also value the sense of community and all the benefits that it provides. My initial interest was definitely to earn crypto but like others, i seem to enjoy the interaction and the sense of togetherness. It is still not normal for me to have these interactions with people unknown to me and without any previous connections. But, it is happening. Seems this is the future and hope this community is safe irrespective of the crypto price.

I think that anyone can learn to interact here, but the largest benefit is learning to interact anywhere. It takes some time and effort, but it is possible for those who might not normally to improve their social skills, if they want.

There is definitely a positive enforcement vibe engraved in the community here. As you said, may be the benefit or the learning for me would be to test my social interaction skill in this scenario to prepare for the similar future we are heading to.
