<div class="text-justify"> The concept of Proof of Brain on Hive is that content is rewarded based on individuals being able to make smart decisions and together, create a wisdom of the crowd effect. By doing this, the best content gets rewarded. However, "content" itself isn't very well defined on Hive, as most people think it is a post, the topic, the formatting, the pictures etc. But these are only part of the content model, with other factors like persona, attitude, mannerisms, social skill and *experience* making up the rest and if my own experience is anything to go by, it is a significant portion of the content mass. Do you know when a group of people are asked to for example, state whether they are an above average or below average driver, the *majority* say they are above average. In reality, this obviously can't be the truth, but it can be the subjective truth of the person making the statement. For them, they actually have very little information available as to the driving skills of others, but still feel confident enough to make a judgement call of themselves in relation to others. This is a failure of the wisdom of the crowd strategy and the idea of Proof of Brain, but it does show something. For example, it shows that individuals will often judge based on their own self-interest, which in the case of the car, they are interested in feeling better than others, even if they have no information to back up their position. Often, because we are working from a perspective of what we desire, we are knowingly or sub-consciously omitting valid information from our evaluation that conflicts with what we want to believe. This omission takes away pertinent information, making our evaluations and subsequent decision-making less valid and far less trustworthy. This is why average self-reported penis sizes are above the medical examiner measured figures. > *People lie.* We lie to others for myriad reasons, but we also lie to ourselves for myriad reasons also. Or at least, we tell half-truths - like only buying that adults magazine for the articles. Sure, the articles could be part of the reason, but it is definitely *not the only* reason. Understanding this and considering how we think and behave ourselves, should lead to the discovery that no matter how much confidence we have in *our opinion,* our opinion is going to be influenced by our preferences, whether we know it or not. This means that objectivity is impossible, as even if we adjust for al of our known biases, there are going to be unknown biases in play too, and these go all the way down to our genetic level. Pretending these don't exist is folly, so too is treating preferences as something wrong, something that we shouldn't have, which we have seen in recent years regarding things like the conversation around "implicit bias" factors. Yes, these things should be considered in many regards, but they should also be treated with a great deal of space for nuance. > *Nuance is dead.* And I think this is what should be thought about when considering our own evaluations, where even though we are confident, we are *likely* suffering from SoB - Scarcity of Brain, where we are actively not using all the information available to us and possibly knowingly so to some degree, which is kind of diminishing the value of our brain. > *Proof of No-Brain.* In regards to Hive, a lot of people who complain that Proof of Brain doesn't work, are omitting information themselves, as they are making the large assumption that they have enough information in their *experience* to make that judgement. They also limit the factors involved in making judgements on content, often omitting the *human factors* of the personality and relationships involved, as well as the preferences of *everyone* involved. This kind of demonstrates that at least in part, Scarcity of Brain is overriding the inconvenient bits of information to challenge Proof of Brain, creating a relationship between them, like two sides of a coin. And I think this is why Proof of Brain is useful, because each of us also suffers from various levels of Scarcity of Brain, even if we deny it in order to make ourselves feel better. Inevitably, Half the content on Hive is worse than the other half, but this doesn't mean that the above average is in any way good. I suspect that there is probably quite a long tail on Hive content and while everyone is going to have good and bad days in regard to their own abilities to produce, there can be a large variation between individuals. But, I think if it was possible to factor in all of the components that are important to people, whether it be content, person or preference attributes, Proof of Brain probably does do a pretty good job of uncovering over time and rewarding decent content that the community *as a whole* values. For me at the moment, while I am suffering from Scarcity of Brain myself, I count myself lucky that my own brain hasn't left me drooling in a wheelchair, unable to speak. That doesn't prove much though. Taraz [ Gen1: Hive ] <</div>

I think the definition of truly "best content" will always be skewed by the established financial evaluation model. As you rightly point out, people will often judge based on their own interests and preferences. And those interests are mostly financial. This creates a bias and steers the crowd in a certain direction, which becomes prevalent. And any effective crowd must enhance the usefulness of individual knowledge on a global and collective scale, allowing it to remain specific and private. And perhaps this is a better reason for bias than the cognitive distortions associated with limited information.. We are all at the beginning of the journey from Scarcity of Brain - to Proof of Brain but, indeed, the transition is only possible if we admit to ourselves that we are still far from the goal.. --- <center>Posted via [proofofbrain.io](https://www.proofofbrain.io/@alekst7/qx2upy)</center>

>And those interests are mostly financial. I disagree here. It can seem that way because what we see in support is the financial aspect, but I don't think that is the main driver for most voters. I think seeing it this way speaks to more us as evaluating the outcomes from our perspectives and if we ourselves are financially motivated, we can overweigh that angle, missing the nuance of other reasons. We are all biased and what I have found here, is often the people who think they are the most objective, are actually the most set in their opinions and narrow in their thoughts.

I think to many people think Utopia is everyone is equal everyone is the same, I hope Utopia never comes about myself, I am one of those sick individuals that actually mostly *like* change. > Proof of Brain probably does do a pretty good job of uncovering over time and rewarding decent content that the community as a whole values. When it is allowed to work it works pretty well, when people want to build and make Hive into their own Utopia, it can fail miserably. I don't see why people are so adamant about change and even fail to notice it in themselves. Attitudes are meant to be changed, it is called personal growth by some. I have changed a lot during my four years on the Block Chain. I find new things all the time to keep me interested in Hive and this technology. I am sure I will change how I view and use Hive in the future also.

Yeah, I ran into one person on Hive his Idea was to bring in Utopia by gun point. Total different idea about how to achieve Utopia. I'm not so sure about personal growth in people anymore, it seems like a pretty large group of late 20-30 somethings have yet to leave high school.

This is exactly the kind of content I look to engage with! To my mind one of the most brilliant potentials of Hive is the opportunity to engender a massive scale dialogue on precisely these types of issues. It is my belief that only through this process that we can create a 'common' understanding of fundamental and complex systems and issues that lie at the heart of virtually every problem in the human world. The challenge is how to get that 'common' understanding while also embracing the unique perspective of everyone engaged in the dialogue.

> The challenge is how to get that 'common' understanding while also embracing the unique perspective of everyone engaged in the dialogue. I think that blockchain tech can help in this area too, by giving voice to people based on their experience and skill in their areas. One of the problems with voting process is, everyone has an equal voice on all topics, even if they are completely unqualified to make a decision on some things. For example, if you were diagnosed with cancer and required treatment and you had to take the decision from voters and there was one oncologist and three random people off the street, would you be happy to honor the result of the vote if it was different to the oncologist? There are many examples, find one that fits if that one doesn't :)

I agree wholly. One thing that could mediate the 'expertise differential' would be a system within the Hive Ecosystem that creates interlinks between communities. One of the great benefits of communities is the inherent potential to focus 'expertise' within areas of personal interest. Perhaps the ability for communities to generate unique tokens could be used to 'flatten' the disproportionate voting weight. For some time now I have been thinking that Hive needs a 'friends' list and an 'acquaintance' list and DM messaging and group chat functions in order to be a true alternative to current social media platforms. I have seen others post some pro's and con's regarding this. My point here being that the inclusion of these elements into the ecosystem would create the interlinks I mentioned earlier. The difference would be in the guidance of how these elements are allowed to influence voting. Perhaps this is a beginning for a project proposal.

My @pooky-jax and Me. We was just having the people lie conversation this morning. Zero accountability for the damages those lies cause. From advertisers to news media and the Big Pharma funded politicians. No accountability. I simply hate liars, therefore try to be as truthful as possible. ***"No officer, I did not see that no trucks allowed sign..."*** Hehehehe... Ok maybe just a little white lie now and then. I post on proof of brain a lot because I haven't sorted communities much. And I am not clear about which content is okay for which community. POB accepted all the content, so that was cool. (plus, there are additional POB tokens😅) I bought a few more tokens from the market, and powered up. The concept of POB sounds fine. There were no premined tokens. Only 21 million. So, I figured they may be valued a little more than hive in the future. And I can sell some of them, and buy hive later. But then I am not sure who the person is behind this project. And then recently, pob account was downvoted, it didn't looked good. So, I am not sure about its future. But I won't sell, or buy more. Just accumulate whatever small rewards I will get🙂

I published a post years ago where I made some intentionally bad art and even said it was stupid; some still came along to say, "You know what? That's actually kind of cool."

I may have been one of those, but I like a lot of your art. I like how much crap I see in them. Kind of like looking at clouds and seeing snoopy riding on a giant tweety bird.

It was delivered humorously. What feels weird is when people take jokes seriously. Gets even worse when they insist I was being serious. One long story for instance, was fiction meant to mimic a blog post. Long story that was hiding a punchline near the end. Well, someone read the story part/build up, skipped over the part that was supposed to make the reader realize I was taking them for a ride. The response was awkward, and I remember saying, "Are you sure you read it?" Which somehow insulted them...

<hr /> <center>**PoB (Proof of Brain) is comprised of two elements.**</center> <hr /> <center>https://i.ibb.co/kqKfC6R/bp.png</center> ☑ Rewards incentivize content creation and curation. ☐ A voting system <code>**that leverages the** [**wisdom of the crowd.**](https://youtu.be/iOucwX7Z1HU)</code> <hr /> <div class=text-justify> PoB, as Steem envisioned, does not work as imagined. And this is not complicated to understand at all. Now, had we a system that did adequately tap into crowd wisdom, in that case, it would've been something quite fantastic. The same reason that PoB does not work as defined is also what causes the blockchain to function. To tap into crowd wisdom with an unequal stake, up and downvotes, and voting trails was pie in the sky thinking, and we need to get over that and adapt. That part is simple if you are honest with yourself about what crowd wisdom is. Look at [**this video**](https://youtu.be/iOucwX7Z1HU) to realize how all these people collectively came to an accurate result, and had some of the people's numerical opinions, had more weight than the others; In that case, such accuracy would not have gotten realized. That said, the idea of up and downvoting coming to anything intelligent isn't going to happen on HIVE with any consistency. Malicious downvotes are not proof of intelligence, and in some cases, they almost serve as proof that we're trying to chase people off and away from the platform. This behavior generates horrible word of mouth and terrible PR. Not only that, but it also comes off cliquey and culty. So how can we realize a wiser system, a system with a brain? It's simple. We can promote a culture of better behavior and also discourage malicious downvotes. We live in a world where the law of the jungle is the foundation of reality. It is the truth. However, this truth does not prevent us from overlaying on top of that jungle law, other systems of law. In most western nations, laid on top of 'the law of the jungle' was natural law, and then common law, and then civil law. I'm not saying that all these systems of law are 'good' per se. However, even the natural law convinced a lot of people to avoid harming other people(s earning potential). </div>
