I don't know why I like such silly puns for titles, but I do. Most of what I title my articles is related to what I am writing about, but is often so obtuse that a reader might not really know what it is going to be about. I think that on line we have started making everything like an American movie or show, obvious and predictable. I am guessing that it has to do with lowering the barrier even further for the audience so that less thought is required.

We were at IKEA today and they are good at doing this also. Just in case you didn't know what hooks can be used for.

It seems that everywhere we go there is a user guide to tell us exactly what we are meant to do and how we are meant to behave. No thought or common sense required, just follow the lines, stop at the marker, wait for the light to go green or the tone to beep to let you know when to move. No need to organize ourselves, it is all done for us. 


So anyway, back to this post topic. Smooth ceilings. Which is a very literal title saying exactly what this is about. Although, I am not sure if the attic surface is a ceiling or a wall. They were going to put roofing panels on it originally, but I wanted it to be paintable, since we have a 4 year old who is already trying to jump to touch it and ja getting close. 

The problem is, once the strip lighting went in it was obvious that they weren't smooth enough once the light turned on as the light shines straight down the surface. So, we will have to either panel it or flatten it more and we are going to try flattening it by coating it again with a full layer of filler instead of just the seams. 

You can see the ripple in the picture below, but in the entry picture where the light is shining away from the surface, it looks flat. The top picture is the wardrobe in the master and there will be hanging space the length with draws either side for storage.

Tge things leaving against the walls are the radiators that will be installed on Monday along with a couple new ones.

We have a fair amount of rush now with a few things to get finished at the start of the week and I will be travelling Tuesday and Wednesday, so will be out of commission. 

One bonus was that we were able to order the skirting board online for less than half the price from a Black Friday sale. 150 meters of skirting adds up to a fair amount and we were able to save about 500 euros on it. We were pretty happy as we were going to go with MDF to save some money, and it was still 50% cheaper. The cornice (roof trim) will be MDF though, which isn't as much of an issue as it doesn't get touched, unlike the skirting boards. 

We are meant to be painting the floors at the end of this week to give us a chance of getting up here before Christmas, and this means prepping and painting the stair and stairway also, which we aren't even close to doing. It is going to get very busy and very tight, but I am still confident we can make it in time. 

I wonder if those Christmas elves are up for some work since Christmas seems all but cancelled? We were meant to be hosting for the first time ever, but it looks like we might be celebrating alone this year due to Corona restrictions and fears. 

As said, everything is guided these days and the new normal is doing what you are told. Did I ever tell you that I am not very good at listening to authority? Perhaps that is another reason I like crypto so much.
