Three years on Steem is looming up fast with the end of January being the birthday point, but with 2019 coming to a close, I have been thinking about my journey so far in various ways. 

Three years on Steem means three years in crypto which percentage wise means, I have been around for 27% of the crypto life since the Bitcoin genesis block. And while I have heard about Lambos, new computers and living off crypto, I am yet to realize one cent of financial benefit so far. Well that is not true, as I spend my time writing, I am not spending my time spending ;D Also, I have learned a lot and have started investing in over the last two years as well as my time on Steem is likely an influencing factor in me taking an extra job which has given me the financial space to invest a couple thousand into crypto I wouldn't have been able to otherwise.

Since 2020 is the year of vision, I think it is good to take stock of what has passed, what is and what could come in order to evaluate, plan and prepare for what is to come. One thing I have decided is that at some point during the next run (Yes, I think there will be another one), I will take something out in an attempt to reduce all of my debts, including my mortgage. If Steem hits the 8 dollar previous peak, it will require about 25% of my holdings.

One of the reasons I have never sold any STEEM is because I feel like I am letting the team down or something, even while the majority of people on the platform sell something regularly, with some of the biggest earners in Steem history having close to zero left. I find the last point quite rude considering how much people have supported them, yet they are consistently unwilling to support others. 

On that point and while I do not have the number prowess of @abh12345, I thought I would have a look at me Steem-Engine holdings to see how they have performed over the last 6 months or so they have been in play. I bought some early on, but I have earned quite a lot also, something that is part of a greater conversation in regards to influence and support. It is interesting to note that some of the highest Steem earners do not get a great deal of support in other tokens, but those who are community focused do. I believe that for those who were popular but not attracting Steem stake, the S-E tokens may have been a large boost for them.

For me, it has been about supporting and as an exercise in tokenization and the dynamics. I have quite enjoyed the process and have been selling some of my earnings along the way. I know that some might not like this, but if you didn't realize, I am a massive proponent of Steem and therefore want to support the core token of STEEM also. However, I have powered up a lot too and delegate it out to my "baby" account, which I will get to later.

At the moment, I have transferred out of S-E about 800 STEEM worth and have about 950 still sitting there to power up for the upcoming SPUD (Steem power up day) on the first of the month. The value of the tokens (based on current price) is pretty good I think.

But as said, these are all delegated out to my baby account and I think that this is more interesting to take a look at. My goal has been to spread tokens and when I sell, I sell at the current price and do not try to maximize value. I do this because if these tokens are to rise in value, I want as many people to hold them as possible so more benefit, but I also do not want to miss out on some earnings along the way and that same higher value future. Tokens need to spread and we have seen the problem with having only a handful of mega accounts in a sea of dust as it takes so long to regulate. 

The *baby* account transferred 640 STEEM to my main the other day, again for SPUD. There are a few other tokens it is spreading too, but nothing significant in STEEM value. I have sold most of the curation it has earned and the STEM is there because I can't delegate it across like the others, only power it up directly, which required powering STEM down and shifting it over.

But, this is the interesting part I think as it has generated about 1000 STEEM in curation if people sold exactly as I did. And if they held and sold at higher times, they would have had significantly better gains than I have. But what does this mean? 

Well, my Steem vote allocates about 2.2 Steem at 100% VP so, to allocate 1000 STEEM would take 450+ 100% votes since the price feed is at 0.20 currently. If we consider that I have 3650x100% votes in a year, going on these numbers I am able to add 12% more to the vote value I deliver. But, my account has increased throughout the year by about 45% as I have bought and earned, and S-E have only been around 6 months. This means that the percentage value I am able to deliver additionally 25% more per day. That is a massive difference, is it not?

My baby account not only follows my vote, it also has a few autos set and is following the @curangel vote:

This means that about 450 unique accounts are getting voted upon by the baby weekly, but depending on where they are posting and tagging, it is going to deliver multiple tokens of varying value to each. While the amounts are unlikely to be earth-shatteringly high, I am hoping that there has been enough for people who might struggle otherwise to earn a little more and perhaps if they are powering up their S-E tokens, could have a much greater value later. The account also has 800 Steem which means it has delivered a bit of that too.

I do not know if this is interesting for you to read, but for me it is an indicator of some of the potential that is to come through SMTs and communities. Tokens are able to fly around all over the Steem network and add values of varying kinds for many types of performed actions. At the moment we are mostly looking at adding value to posts, but this is not the only way it can happen. With Hivemind there will be more tools to track behavior and that means that tokens are able to have more freedom for use case. 

# A token idea

For example, one token I would like to see developed is one I will talk about later at some point concerning [sharing and the value of owned shares.](https://steemit.com/hive-167922/@tarazkp/the-generation-of-shares) A token that is not only able to track the number of shares, but who shares, how many share from that point and what happens to those shares along the way would be fantastic as it would be able to provide a value to the original content creator, a value to the person who shares it and a value to the sharer and content creator for any subsequent shares. 

That means that the content creator can get value trickling in from many sources, but there is a high incentive to be one of the first sharers with an active audience. This kind of tracking and calculation is possible transparently on a blockchain and Steem should be able to handle it. And with a little bit of thought put into the design, it could offer a fantastic overview of the sharing network and identify *real influencers* within the system - people who could greatly shape the spread of content in a decentralized manner.

Sure, it needs some thought and work put into it.

# I will call it a night

I think that is enough to get through for now (it is 5 am - daughter is ill and was up coughing and spluttering), but I am guessing I will have something else to say before 2019 closes out and we welcome in what many (including myself) will be the year crypto gets some mainstream traction - instead of a handful of nerds who think tokenizing stuff so that everyone can own a slice of the data pie would be cool. 

While I don't know if all I do is the best thing for Steem or others in the ecosystem, I do hope that overall it will amount to having a positive effect in helping the Steem community develop and grow to become a distributed powerhouse of creatives, consumers and investors of all kinds. One of the best things on Steem is that we are able to all experiment in multiple ways simultaneously and hopefully through mass trial and error, continuously improve the outcomes.
