Staking Insecurities
<div class="text-justify">

Wouldn't it be great to have an explosive end to the year on the crypto markets - the kind of thing that legends are made of? Do you think it is going to happen?

I an still crossing my fingers and toes (not my legs) in the hope for a powerful end to the year or early start for 2022. Of course, I am always looking for some more upward market movements, like everyone else - well, unless looking to buy...

![OI001097 (1).jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/tarazkp/23z75ETboEcDtNXb9o72zhh6puDt9QQ8uTN6mGBmKPU8tvCRSw2y8Kj86VTFHsdWEPjz5.jpg)

It is a funny conflict really, because as much as I want everything to go up, I also feel like it might be better to collect a bit more first, meaning that the price would have to come down more. The challenge is, I am always going to feel that one I think, so when the price is up I will wish I had bought more and when it is down, it will be I wish it was up.

> #### Is a trader ever happy?

At the moment, things are ticking along in the more passive incomes of CUB, but I am looking forward to more details on when things are going to start moving there too - though I may have missed something. I think it is good to build the hype early, but it can't be *too early,* as people don't have very long attention spans and there are always other opportunities looking for takers.

Cub Finance has been a good investment for me over what I think is the last 9 months or so and while people worry about maximization, I haven't minded the trickle of income coming in, while getting the feeling of being a hodler too - while also providing some liquidity for others to get involved. As @edicted was saying the other day, [AMMs are convincing people to not hodl,](https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@edicted/amm-and-il-convincing-communities-they-shouldn-t-hodl) which is cool, as it means more people can get involved cheaper, rewarding the non-hodlers with yield instead.

This is great for people who have a bit of token that they aren't looking to sell or, don't want to get out of crypto. For me, there is a certain sense of "security" that comes with having some value dribbling in from these various pools and it would be great to have enough that during the bear markets, I would be able to use these small streams to buy the dips and ride through to the next peaks.

We are often in a rush to get to where we want to be financially, but if I am looking at how long I would likely need to work a normal job to get to where I want to be, five, ten or fifteen years in crypto to save another 20, isn't such a bad deal. And, as long as things keep progressing through developments, I suspect it isn't going to take more than ten.

> #### Ten years.

I will be over fifty! Geez, I don't think of myself as an old person, yet I am definitely getting longer in the tooth compared to many of the people around me. Do they realize what an opportunity they have in front of them? I don't think most do, as the ones that I do know are looking for a quick win to satisfy a low-bar desire, instead of looking at their full potential.

One of my ex-clients was a psychological trainer for the Finnish national hockey team and also worked with a lot of young up and coming stars as they were heading toward the NHL. She would ask them what their goals were for their career and many would say something like, "buy a Ferrari" - which sounds great, but she would remind them, *that isn't a very lofty goal.* The reason is that the cost of a Ferrari is *cheap* in comparison to the earning potential of some of these players, meaning that they run the risk of settling for far less than they cold accomplish. This doesn't just affect their income, it is their potential as a player too.

Many of those players will be lucky to make it ten years in the NHL, if they make it there at all. They have to earn pretty much all of their life income in that space and also learn how to manage it. If they started investing not only into the buy/sell of Bitcoin, but liquidity pools too - a years salary could provide for them for the rest of their lives passively.

But this is the thing for "getting ahead" in this way while young, a *lumpsum* makes things so much easier, but even when people get that lumpsum opportunity, they tend to look for a different kind of security, which tends to be something that they can use now, but might not actually bring in much income, if any.

I have a friend for example who got an inheritance from a grandparent and because it was "free money" went about spending it on consumer items, like a new luxury car. *A hundred thousand on a car.*

![image.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/tarazkp/23tRxSJgoxzqtDyxYWsvS8CY2JQLBARtB3BVS6RSjzWJFtj6XzArYpYMmnepF2yxZGi7C.png)

But, what is interesting is that if instead he had bought Bitcoin and put it into CUB for a 15% return for example, he would have been able to lease the car and still had money left over each month, whilst still having the principle (in Bitcoin which will fluctuate) four years down the track at whatever price that is. Which do you think is going to be worth more in four years, a 100K car or 100K of Bitcoin?

> #### But it was *free money.*

No, it came with the cost of opportunity to use and there are many different ways to use our resources. So, while he gets to drive around in a fancy car (that he didn't really buy himself anyway), he also has to keep doing a pretty average job in order to pay his mortgage, groceries and lifestyle. The funny thing is to me, is he is happy - but that is because at the moment, he is largely blissfully unaware of the true cost of his purchase.

And I think this is what happens with many of us when we use our resources, as we just can't be aware of all the potential ways we could use it, nor which are better or worse overall. So, we do what we know and are happy, *until we know better.*

"Knowing better" seems to come with experience however, which is probably why the older we get, the simpler we try to make our lives and, the more we think about how we are going to deal with the future, as we have the experience of enough failure and, the obligations that make failure even more painful.

It is far easier to fail when only needing to look after oneself, than to fail with a family that is relying on you too. But, this isn't a reason not to have a family as at least for me, experience says that having my family has made what I do more valuable, because of the obligation, responsibility and consequences. It brings meaning value to the value of what is getting done, whether it is here on the blockchain or at work. Having enough money doesn't take away the responsibility, it just gives options as to how that responsibility is going to be handled.

I am hoping that in time, my daughter will understand the value of her resources enough, that while she won't be scared to spend and splurge a little, she will also think about whether the splurge is worth it. Some people feel really good about having a fancy car sitting in the car park, others feel good having that same worth sitting in an investment portfolio, earning them the value of a fancy car.

There is no such thing as total security, but having insecurities comes with a price tag too.

Exactly, its every people desire to have luxurious car and a good investment portfolio, but what I think is these are only for the lucky people or the people who are rich from ancestor. To your question we may see the prices down until march and may see another spike after March.

One of the dangers with focusing on the earnings potential of a purchase (at least for me) is the desire to buy things that I'll hold, and hold, and hold, rather than purchasing things that are actually a necessity.

For instance, I had a giant struggle with buying a new computer (which I needed) - but I knew it was going to cost me $1,000 and was caught thinking:

*"Can I keep getting by without this? What if I invest it instead? I'd sure like to diversify a bit..."*

But at the end of the day, I've been struggling with this purchase for months, even though I really needed it.

*(...I elected to buy the computer... and it's like a giant weight is lifted off of me... so that's great)*

Obviously, this isn't anything like buying a $100,000 car. But I do still sometimes struggle with the concept of using value I've earned to buy objects that only depreciate over time.

The computer, as I boiled it down, was an exception - because the things I can do with it will improve my life and my ability to create value for myself and my wife through the business I sustain with it.

But... nevertheless... it was still *hard.*

Great post. Always love your stuff @tarazkp

Yeah - this can be an issue for sure. I have this problem :D

When it comes to some things like a computer, if needed, it is needed - but I have been putting off upgrading mine for too long. My plan is - *after Christmas!* I just hope the one I have lasts til then :)

For these kinds of things though, there is also the investment side of it, as it is part of my work - so it is necessary, yet, even though I can at least claim the tax on it through my business, I keep putting it off.

At some point - bite the bullet!

Yep ... lol. EXACT same situation here. Tax write off and all. Yet... it was so hard.

Unfortunately, I still have to wait another week and a half before I get it because it's being built (almost done now) and then being sent. Ordered it on Cyber Monday. Feels like forever!

Funny how the years rack up so quickly. I don't want to be living the high life on a zimmer frame so these bloody coins have to do something drastic over the next 10 years. I have patience however and what we are building is generation wealth and I hope they enjoy it. No rush on my part for now as $1.70 Hive could easily be a $10 Hive in a few years/months who knows.

Yeah, I am not in too much of a rush and I think there is still plenty of "accumulation" needed, but what is cool is that at least I feel like we are all heading in the right direction at the moment. Just have to keep our heads.

Totally agree with that sentiment as this can only go up from here. Would be content to see some stability as well even though the price these days is not that bad considering where we have been.

If you learn about financial literacy early you wouldn’t have to live a super frugal life to get ahead and eventually become financially independent. In the end, time is the biggest and most important asset we have, and for me I wish I had some more of the Knowledge I have know when I was younger . So passing down your knowledge to your daughter is going to give her a huge advantage.

My uncle has had an interesting way of teaching his kids about finance. He would give them a monthly allowance. Let’s say USD 50. Whatever they had left at the end of the month he would double that money and then put it all into an investment account. Also if they really wanted something they would either have to save or work to get it. By now they are teenagers and they already have a pretty awesome investment account.

There's no need for a rush being into crypto for a positive results so soon because as we all know it is a 50-50 game in either it's high in inflation or experience deflation but with hopes still very much alive there's definitely going to be a positive results in the nearest future with crypto pumping in a very good price and a better improvement as well.

We want to be where we are financially. That's why we hurry the most. But it is not right to rush into crypto. The Hive currently costs around 2 $. And hopefully that will get closer to 10 $ in the near future.

What kind of explosive end, the kind where everything ends out somewhere near Pluto, everyone perceives their problems are now over because suddenly they've exceeded what they wanted their financial position to be (and of course being relentlessly greedy just want/feel entitled to even more than that), or the kind where some New World Order run by a vampire or lich or something who has been alive for centuries destroys everything in one fell swoop that is actually a series of carefully calculated and seemingly unrelated events?

I believe 2022 will be more matured and trustful for the Hive blockchain and its communities . Look at splinterland ,always introduce us new features and promotions which is entertaining and earning .The Defi like Cub Finance is genuinely heading to new level where off- course passive income is welcoming us. Hive has lot more to offer us in 2022 . None other blockchain provide such advanced ecosystem in such early stage. Let's see hive under top 20 in market cap ranking in coming year.

Getting “free money” like that and trying to live as long as possible without working is understandable, although not the wisest choice. Spending it on “stuff” and continuing the grind is facepalmy

My style is to try and 10x it on medium risk (bitcoin) however long that takes and then taking out the initial investment to make life easier.

I was almost there before this correction.

I don’t know if “not having to work” is a meaningful goal either. When people say they “don’t want to work”, I think what they really want is the time and freedom to explore and find something new to put their energy into. I am trying to make the grind more fun and free because I don’t know when “full time Hivester” will be sustainable for me and I still feel guilty selling hive

It is a funny thing though - putting off the inevitable by a few months, year - two years. Then, wondering why life is harder afterward.

>I was almost there before this correction.

Tell me about it! Though, it is just a bit more time :)

And yeah - I am going to work til the day I do I think - *sooner or later* - because otherwise, what is the point? Sitting on a beach is boring AF.

I reckon I should write a bit of a post on the "fun grind" as without the enjoyment, most people have little hope to succeed.

Hi @tarazkp

These are interesting thoughts.
I think opportunity cost is a mature concept we all should learn at a young age because early investment and the power of compounding favor the young.

Interestingly enough, your comments about Hive are related to this opportunity cost nicely. The time I sprnd here has value and represents time I could spend watching TV, movies or scrolling on social media.

The time I spent here accumulating tokens during the bear market, was time I could be doing other things. But the opportunity to build here for my future meant the OPC cost was worth it.

There should be some solid ways to teach this now to kids - *but I haven't found any.*

>The time I sprnd here has value and represents time I could spend watching TV, movies or scrolling on social media.

And, I feel at least that the reward of interacting here (even without the monetary side) is far more rewarding.

Well let's hope that we will close the year with a good bull rally. However, it seems we may observe a correction by the Feb 2022 which definitely no one would like to happen. Cub as you said is a good investment for passive income.

Indeed, I have been going through this process. The more I get older, the simpler life I want to live with less problem. It is clear for me that I want peace in my private and business life.
