The ordinary extraordinary

I think people have missed something fundamental in this life, perhaps I have too, I am unsure. Normally I write about the failings of society or the near certainty of a dystopian future due to our avoidance of the necessary and attraction to the irrelevant and entertainment. Do I give a picture of hopelessness to you through my writing, through the murderous fiction stories?

I have written a little about <a href="https://steemit.com/steemit/@tarazkp/success-porn-a-motivational-scam">success porn</a> where people talk motivation nonsense and claim that it is inspirational, it is not, it is bullshit. But, it doesn't mean that there is no beauty in this world and it doesn't mean one must travel far or at all to witness the glory and majesty this world has to offer. In all likelihood, you could walk around your home and be inspired by life.

I don't get to travel anymore, I hardly even leave the small city I live in and for the most part, my life is mundane, habitual, uninspiring from an activity standpoint if one believes it to be. I do not.

It is in the ordinary where true beauty lays, it is the one leaf clinging to the branch while all others have fallen to the ground, it is the swirl of paint on the palette where two colours work in harmony on their way to become one, it is the drop of coffee that filters slowly into the milk. Do you not see it? The evening sun that splashes through the blinds onto an otherwise blank wall, or the drumming of the rain upon the roof?

I sit and look at the toes of my daughter, like little pink peas in a pod and absorb the warmth of her little body against mine and share the warmth of my arms with her. I look into the mirror and see the strands of silver starting to mix into the black. It is not sadness I feel, it is life itself, I have lived and my face and body bear testimony to this, in sickness and in health, this is a marriage of the unavoidable.

We are waiting and waiting for something extraordinary to come our way, to sweep us off our feet, to save us from the fate of our routined lives without realising we are already surrounded by life itself. We are living it constantly and if we cared enough to truly pay attention, it is both endlessly beautiful and absolutely interesting, a journey without end.

We have been lied to and we have become complicit in the lie, it takes two after all. We do not need a lot to be happy, we do not need glamour and luxury to feel special or a pat on the back to feel loved. The only thing we need is to wake up enough to start exploring life itself, to start exploring who we are, what we are and how much influence we truly have over our own experience.

Life doesn't happen to us, we are life itself and for life to thrive, it must move or like unused muscles, we will atrophy cell by cell until there is nothing of it left. The movement need not even be physical for we are complex thinkers, masters of our minds if we choose and we can create and destroy entire worlds in our imaginations. Is that not grand enough? We are gods and how we wield the power of our imaginations to create, is up to us.

Some say they do not have the time for such fanciful perspectives of life as life itself is too hard; I must struggle at work, fight to survive, beat back the shadows of my mind. Do they not realise that is beauty, that it is inherent in all things we do including the most challenging aspects we face? They are the most beautiful of all. To stare into the nothingness and choose to walk forward. It is an act of heroism and legend, even if nobody sees ti happen.

We are not animals bound by our genes and base instincts, we are created through nurture and our experiences of our environment but, this is not limited to the external as we ourselves are part of that environment and how we move among the trees, how we interact with others and how we look after ourselves is within our control. None of us are victims, no matter how oppressive the regime, how cruel the words, how painful the body becomes, our mind can be ours, it can always be free.

We do not need inspiration from the world, we need the motivation from within to have the strength to take control of our own lives and take the steps to move forward along our paths. Success may not come, failure is likely and no one may care at all but, we as life itself will have fundamentally changed and if we can do it, anyone can and when we do it, everything will.

Do you not have something to write about? Really?

On my way to work, in the morning, I walk between two buses. Every morning I pass by near two cats sitting on a manhole cover. They do not run, hide or get scared. And I remember what said a Romanian writer in a book called "The forgotten beauty of life": besides the doctor who recommends us to exercise for 30 minutes a day, we should have another one who recommends us to stay and do nothing for 30 minutes a day, just enjoying the sun, or, like you said, the sound of raindrops on the roof. I, too, find beauty in that.

I don't get the feeling of hopelessness from you, more than often the opposite actually, I like that even during the mundane you can find the light and make our days lighter by reading your thoughts. There are somethings in life that can be quite inspirational. For me, its normally nature's creations, like seing the waves hitting the beach, a beautiful sky, flowers blossoming. Medidation also helped me get more aware of the surroundings and appreciate little things like hearing birds singing in the morning or the sound of rain hitting the windows. About life, i think it all depends on what we want to achieve in life and the hard question is to know what we want life, because its always changing and when we get what we what we normally don't feel satisfied and want more. We're free in our mind as long as we want, in life not so easy, because all decisions have consequences, good or bad.

You have an amazing, relatable (imo) opinion. There indeed is beauty to be found in the ordinary. More often then not i look out the window and see the leafs falling from the trees, snow falling from te sky gently touching the ground before disappearing. Its those small thing, often ignored by many people i find beauty.

I asked myself that same question today and I read it here today.  Thank you for this post.  More often than not, in our daily lives, we can take many thing for granted.  Your post reminds me to be more mindful and appreciative of all the experiences we have throughout our ordinary ( and maybe sometimes hectic) lives.

I have heaps to write about, unfortunately I'm one of those people that's probably classed as "entertainment" XD I just like telling stories and hoping people enjoyed them, didn't mean to be a distraction from much nobler purposes!

It's nice to know I'm not alone in my "mundane" little existence anyway, I've occasionally had trouble explaining why we're pretty content and don't care about frantically chasing bigger and better things for the sake of having them :)
