There was an announcement that was evidently a long time in the making.  

It is a project I had not heard about yet was in development for a few years.  The team was looking to launch it on Steem but, alas, they were caught up like everyone else.

Now it is going to be coming to Hive with the expected Phase 1 launch in June of this year.

@dapplr seeks to be an application that provides full usability with the Hive blockchain.  It is going to integrate all the traditional features of Hive such as posting, upvoting, and commenting.  At the same time, it also looks to add many of the functions that those who use Instagram are accustomed to.

One of the interesting features that caught my attention was this:

>Messaging, Audio and Video calls - We are integrating tons of algorithms and 3rd-party services to help the users experience just like Instagram and even better. It will keep on improving as we move forward.

This would be a rather novel addition and move it one step closer to being on par with messenger application suck as Kik or Viber.

The intent is to be of original design, to provide the look and functionality of the commonly used mobile applications.  Ease of use is something that is vital to attract the masses.  It looks like this team is building the application with that idea in mind.

There are two phases to their road map.  The first will be in June.  After that, they are going to look to do things such as take their chat feature and make it available to any game or application that wants to integrate it.

To me, these are very interesting concepts.  If that is pulled off, it will be interesting to see where that extends to.

The final feature I wanted to mention is the ability for users to change their skins.  This helps individuals customize the look of their pages.
