It is easy to confuse what is going on in the blockchain world. With all the development, along with the conditioning of society, the idea of a world with millions of blockchains does not make sense.

How are all going to survive?

The best way to look at things is in parallel with languages.

In the world today, there are many different languages people use. Within thise languages, there are different dialects that are specific to a certain region. Sometimes these dialects are so different that one who speaks the language might not be able to understand what is being said.

So I ask, how many languages can the world handle?

The answer is there is virtually no limit. We could have each of the 7B people on this planet speaking a different language. Then we could have each individual able to speak 9 others. That would be 70B languages although not all different.

What would happen in this scenario is that 1 or 2 of the ten might be the more popular languages. These would get all the "traffic". There might be a couple that only a few close friends or family members understand. And, finally, there might be a mixture of the rest.

An individual would be flexible with the language used. With elder family members, for example, they might only know the family's main language. Hence, in that setting, it is the one spoken.

This same individual might use something different in business. Depending upon where the people are from, there could be an accepted language there that everyone understands.

We also see settings where a group of people are together and a couple understand one language, yet use another since that is what the rest speak. Even though the two could converse using what is native to them, for the sake of those around them, they opt for the one that most can comprehend.

As you can see, there is a great deal of flexibility.

Where do languages come from? They are made up of course. Have you ever seen children create their own language? They will formulate something that only a couple of them understand. It is rather funny to see them speak it in front of their parents who have no understanding of what is being said.

Then we take a look at different careers. Don't most have their own language? They use acronyms or words that are unfamiliar to the rest of us. The legal realm is known for this.

We see a similar situation in the world of programming. There are many different languages that one could use. Depending upon the situation, and knowledge of the individual, determines which programming language is used.

Hopefully, we can see how this analogy can be overlaid on the idea of blockchain.

To start, anyone can create a cryptocurrency. Like children, we can make it up. It might be something only a couple of us use and apply. The rest of the world is not familiar with it nor will they be. It might be something that dies out quickly or goes on forever. If we are technically adept, it might even be on its own blockchain. This would mean it could keep running as long as the software is on someone's computer.

We will see blockchains that get a lot of traffic. These are the public ones that a lot of people use. It is understood by most of the people and a place where all on there grasp most of what is taking place.

Then we have the flexible ones. They will use one cryptocurrency in one area while another elsewhere. The could also apply to blockchains as interoperability starts to take place. An application could be operating on both Steem and EOS, as an example, with the token being transacted on each network.

Ultimately, any blockchain like Steem will just be one of many. There will is virtually no limit to how many can operate and what their uses will be.

Hopefully, this helps to remove some of the limitation mindset.

With 7B people, there are millions of different "languages" used around the world. The same will be true with blockchain and cryptocurrency.

We are going to see millions created, most of which we will not be aware of.

The great thing about technology is that it will also be there to translate and help communication more than ever before. Same will eventually happen with blockchains as they will become interoperable and cross lines and industries as it is adopted.

@organduo ·
Do you think it would be sufficient in the future for someone to use only Steem "language"? Or one would do well to learn how more popular ones, like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin work?
