Stoicism is something that is misunderstood. It is an entire philosophy that could encompass a million videos.

In this video I discuss how it is crucial to focus upon what we can control. Most spend their lives focusing upon things they have no impact upon. Here is where success gets derailed.

We also incorporate this into emotions. Too many are slaves to their emotions, being controlled by them.

**Summary:**
In this video, the speaker delves into Stoicism and its application to achieving success. The main focus is on the concept of focusing on what one can control and ignoring the rest. He emphasizes setting achievable goals that are within one's control, managing emotions effectively, and maintaining composure under pressure. The speaker provides examples from various aspects of life, such as setting realistic goals in business, handling rejection in sales, managing emotions in the face of market fluctuations, and reacting to challenging situations with a calm and rational mindset. Stoicism, as discussed, entails directing and controlling emotions rather than suppressing them entirely.

**Detailed Article:**
The video discussion centers around Stoicism as a philosophy for achieving success. The speaker begins by highlighting the importance of understanding and applying Stoic principles for personal growth and prosperity. Stoicism, often misunderstood, is portrayed as a philosophy that advises individuals to focus on what they can change or control while disregarding what is beyond their influence.

The speaker emphasizes the necessity of setting practical and achievable goals within one's control. He points out that setting unrealistic goals that rely heavily on external factors can lead to frustration and a lack of progress. By suggesting quantifiable goals like the number of posts written or videos created, he stresses the significance of taking actions that are manageable and measurable.

Moreover, the speaker discusses the role of emotions in success. He cautions against letting emotions overpower rational decision-making and highlights the detrimental effects of succumbing to emotional reactions, particularly in high-pressure situations such as sales or investments. Drawing parallels to sports and investing, he illustrates the importance of maintaining emotional composure and not allowing fluctuations in performance or outcomes to dictate one's reactions.

Furthermore, the speaker provides insights into handling rejection and criticism, common challenges faced in various fields. He underlines the significance of controlling emotional responses, especially in situations that may evoke strong feelings. By recommending constructive ways to channel emotions, such as exercise or journaling, he advocates for a balanced approach to emotional expression.

In essence, the speaker concludes that Stoicism is not about suppressing emotions but rather about managing and directing them effectively. By focusing on what can be controlled, maintaining a rational mindset, and responding to adversity with resilience, individuals can navigate challenges more successfully and work towards their goals with clarity and determination. The overarching message encourages viewers to adopt a Stoic approach to life, emphasizing self-mastery, emotional regulation, and a proactive mindset in pursuing success.

Normally I agree with you that Hive goals such as HP, HBD, HE tokens etc. are partially out of the control of the users who set them (including myself), and as such not the best kind of goals, by definition.

They do have some qualities that still makes them useful:
* they represent a direction the user focuses on, and may use other resources to reach the targets or get as close to them as possible
* they can help keep the author consistent and on track; for some the public accountability is a motivation too
* they can be inspirational and motivational to others, and we've been told about this many times in comments on these posts

Otherwise, I agree the types of goals you mentioned could be more suitable and maybe even more helpful. I already have one regarding the number of comments. Will probably have others like that next year. Although not a declared goal, I've been posting daily for over a year and a half and intend to keep going as much as possible. And if, for whatever reason, I won't post some days in the future, it is my intention to keep going afterwards.
