Have you ever considered the idea that we should try to have projects on the Steem blockchain that enhance the ecosystem yet are not there to generate a huge amount of individual profit?

This only makes sense since everyone holding STEEM benefits from a more valuable ecosystem.  Of course, there are those who put time and effort in who expect compensation since that is the model we are most accustomed to.  However, we could be seeing things changing.

In the meantime, we are going to have to find the nuggets that are looking to improve the collective of Steem.

OCDB is such a project.

What is OCDB you ask?

This is, I presume, the brainchild of @acidyo.  It is a non-profit distribution bot that helps authors improve their standing in the ecosystem without taking out huge individual profits from the system.  In fact, it is all given back to the ecosystem.

Most of us believe that a better distributed token is to the benefit of Steem.  We all want to see newer users enter the ecosystem and succeed.  While there are many avenues to pursue that are starting to emerge, most still come to create "traditional" content.  This is where OCDB comes in.

It presently has 3,000 authors on its whitelist who can use the service.  The project provides a guaranteed 10% return (although this can change due to fluctuations since payouts are a week later).  This means that those delegating will get a 10% less ROI versus self voting.

The team is dedicated to providing votes only to those who are deserving.  Those on the whitelist are ones who are not spammers or plagiarizing.  That will not fly.  The idea is to spread the votes around to those who are working at making their mark on Steem and contributing to the ecosystem.

This is something that will stand to benefit us all.  Remember, anyone holding STEEM is a participant in the increased value in the blockchain (or will be when the price decides to mirror what is actually taking place).

Some complain that bid bots are promoting garbage posts and making the system unfair.  To me, I feel anyone is free to do as they wish on here in that regard.  I do not besmirch those who create the bots nor do I have a problem with those who choose to use them.  Promoting one's work is simple marketing.

I do like, however, the idea of giving as much as possible to the authors.  This will provide incentive to keep creating content and moving forward.  At the same time, it appears those delegating will get an aggressive rate of return on their delegation.  This is important to investors.

As we progress forward, it is likely that many of the newer people are going to have to promote their content in some way, at least across the entire platform.  Communities might provide another form of interaction but it is not likely to get one widespread coverage.

Having a service like this could help.  @acidyo wrote a post a while back explaining the difference between a staked distribution bot and a promotion bot.  It is well worth the read.

If you are one who feels that we should have some things that are here to benefit the ecosystem, first and foremost, this is something to look at.  There might be better ROIs out there for one's delegation although that is not for certain.  The fact that all monies go back to either authors or curators could make it very competitive.  I guess someone will have to run the numbers on that.

Either way, I like the idea of something like this.  I did add some more SP to the fold yesterday in an effort to show some support.  

I think this sums up the outlook:

The second part is vital.  We are looking at an idea that a healthy distribution of STEEM will more than compensate for the 10% in the long run due to an increase in the price.  This is something that I sense is correct.

This could be one of the mechanisms that is used to help push this forward.  Hopefully, those reading this post will show some support to the project.

It is good to support that which gives back to Steem.
