One thing the US Election showed is how we are now in  a technocracy.  Our world is becoming more and more controlled by technology.  Actually, it is being controlled by the companies behind said technology.

A lot is being offered with blockchain and cryptocurrency which is why the powers that are will do all they can to slow the pace if not trying to stop it.  Since Bitcoin is probably out of the bag, they need to try and contain things.

Facebook really put them on alert with the announcement of Libra.  The government, at that point, saw its mortality.

More importantly, there are freedoms that Americans are granted through the Bill of Rights.  One is the freedom of speech.  

It is not government restricting it but private companies.  Thus, the are not under the realm of the Bill of Rights.

You brought up a really good point in the subtext here that I definitely want to write about.  People trust the Facebook, Twitter, Google, Amazon  brands much more than government or banks. It becomes quite obvious that CBDCs are going to fail compared to the trusted brands unless the tech companies get slapped with massive regulation... which as you say takes a lot of time giving the tech companies more than enough resources to code around those regulations.

Exactly right.  I've tried to talk about these things with friends and acquaintances of mine still on Web 2.0 platforms. These people don't care. I see them as sheep on their way to a slaughterhouse. The journey is in its early stages but once we're talking about that more powerful stuff like brain-computer interfaces or sensors inside the body complete with a bunch of actuators of one kind or another capable of influencing it somehow, it becomes obvious how giving that kind of power to a centralized entity can be very dangerous.

Yep people didnt even lift a finger because they have no idea it is happening.  There are still many ordering Alexa or feeding information into Siri.

At the same time, half the US loves what the major social media sites are doing.  They fail to realize that without freedom of speech, people are just programmed morons.
