Dan Larimer is creating a new project that is aimed at revolutionizing social media.  After starting Steem and Voice, a blockchain and an app aimed at the social media world, he is now onto his third venture of this nature (in addition to the earlier Bitshares).

In this video I discuss how there is a key point that is being missed in these endeavors.  It is a point, however, that is not lost on the Hive community and they exhibit it everyday.  This is also the reason why I am highly confident that Hive will excel in the future.

From what I have read I like the idea of the inner-workings of Clarion.  I just don't know how well it is going to be picked up if there is no tokenization.  Plus there are already other platforms that allow for censorship free posts and people haven't really picked those up yet either.  Maybe we will get lucky and find ourselves in the Google +/Facebook position.  By the time they finally get Clarion together, project blank may already have too much of the market share for them to be successful.

I don't want to be too negative here. But Dan Larimer should start working on Hive more. We've been more successful than any other Larimer's social media. Voice.com was more of a centralized project with all bark and no bite when it comes to fighting censorship. I still think Hive is the best thin o come out of Larimer's work :)

I think minor correction is required. During the Videotape Format War, Sony manufactured and promoted Betamax, while JVC promoted VHS. The outcome, apparently, had less to do with marketing and more to do with maximum length of videocassette recording time. Betamax, at least originally, had superior audio and image quality, but its cassettes ran only for 60 minutes. VHS had poor audio and video, but it allowed 120 minutes. The latter allowed an average feature film or 1-2 episodes of an average TV show to be recorded for later watching while being aired on broadcast television. VHS won due to a simple matter of convenience or, to quote a popular saying "The worst enemy of the Best is Good Enough".

It's interesting, when I saw the news about Dan's new project...The first thing that came to mind was...The tech is cool and I'm sure it'll be great, but what about the people?

Anything 'social' requires a community.

And sometimes I think the crypto space doesn't understand that when it comes to these projects. Hive has the community...One day, the crypto world will wake up to that fact.  It's coming soon I truly believe that!

I think most people are quite underwhelmed by EOS at this point. Voice has impressed even fewer. If Voice really has full KYC, that's just stupid. I think the original idea was storing only a hash of all the identifying information to make sure each person could only have a single account.

Yes I get that impression about EOS too.  Some say it is too hard to develop; others call it an outright scam.

It does appears the EOS holders are not happy with Block.one which I can understand.  They do not appear to want to develop the chain.

Bitshares had the complexity issue.  I put a lot into it and was disappointed too.  Of course, I got in after Dan had left and was already onto Steem.

That said, he doesnt appear to be a manager which is not uncommon for people like that.  Others have to run the projects which can often cause conflict.  I dont know what happened with his "partnerships" over the years that caused him to leave but that is not uncommon either.

We know his other half in Steemit, Ned, was not of the best caliber so many Dan was smart to move on.
