3Speak Uploads Disabled Due To Hard Fork

Earlier I tried uploading a video on 3speak.co. When I did this, I encountered an issue.

What is this all about? Are they putting some updates together for the advancement of the platform.

Sadly, this is not the case.

On discord, we see this put up by the 3Speak team.

Well if that is not a total bummer. The @threespeak team is claiming that the service might be down 5-7 days.

Of course, this is a defensive measure with the Hard Fork set to take place in the next couple of days. According to a post yesterday, it is set for tomorrow, so we will see how it goes.

I guess this is a smart move by the team considering that, in the past, applications had a tough time with hard forks. In this instance, there was ample opportunity to test the changes out yet it appears the team is still not confident how their platform will be affected.

In situations like that, it is sensible to disconnect and wait to see how things unfold.

This means that those who are accustomed to loading videos will be on the sidelines for the next few days at a minimum. Hopefully, the issues with the hard fork will be smooth and there will be little debugging post fork.

That said, we will have to prepare in case there is a bit of disruption. At this moment, 7 of the consensus Witnesses already made the move to the new update and are running it. Along with this, many of those outside the top 20 are also running the new version.

From what I recall, the time of switch should be 10 AM Eastern Time tomorrow. Hence we are looking at roughly 19 hours until things go live.

This will be the first hard fork of Hive since the one that split it from Steem. The updates will help to stabilize the chain while also providing a more efficient chain to operate.

The next 48 hours could be a bit interesting. With updates, the sad truth is one never knows what bugs will be faced regardless of how much testing is done. In the end, until it goes live, everything is guesswork.

For now, 3Speak is not available for uploading videos so everyone proceed accordingly.

There are 7 witnesses out of 20 which are already on HF24 and probably and hopefully the others will follow. I am hoping that after HF24 maybe there is a simpler way to release features within the blockchain and not require so much planning and affecting everybody. Just provide new features as a minor version upgrade instead of major without affecting the economics of the ecosystem.

Nevertheless we need a faster way to deliver new features on the blockchain where consensus might not be needed as it doesn't affect the economics.
