The question was posed to me bringing up the idea of 100K monthly users when the goal of 10K was not even reached.


We know the [LEO](https://inleo.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-leo) teamed has longed discussed the latter as the goal (first).  


To be honest, I have no idea what the monthly user total is.  My guess is we are still a fair bit below it although the Dash integration has helped.


Personally, I am on board with the idea of having the skins appealing to different communities, especially those around [crypto](https://inleo.io/@leoglossary/cryptocurrency).  It is a terrific way to reach out to those.  However, we know crypto people tend to be less about community and more about simply trying to pump their [coins](https://inleo.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-coins).  This is why [Web 2.0](https://inleo.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-web-2-0) is their preferred destination.


That said, there could be appeal to those who are truly on board with the values of their communities.  Catering to those people can add to the user base.

## AI As The Path To 100K


The problem with what I described is we are still dealing with [social media](https://inleo.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-social-media).  Over the last few [months](https://inleo.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-month) I made my view on this clear.  We are now dealing with nothing more than a pathway to more [data](https://inleo.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-data).


We are in the game wehre AI is the only thing that matters.  Every platform will be built based upon this.


It is also Leo's path to 100K monthly users.


Of course, this brings up the question of why would Leo potentially be appealing to 100K people if it cannot attract 10K?


Here is where the difference comes in.


If you are with a trophy [wife](https://inleo.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-wife), are you going to leave her for a blow up doll?  For [years](https://inleo.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-year), we heard about the need to promote Hive on Web 2.0 platforms to pull people over.


How has that worked out?  The reality is people are not going to leave [Facebook](https://inleo.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-facebook) or X for Hive.  The past 7 years prove that.


We tried the censorship resistant angle to no avail.  [account ownership](https://inleo.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-account-ownership-hive) is only appealing when one's Web 2.0 [account](https://inleo.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-account) is banned.  As soon as that is returned, the people vanish.


AI is a different [story](https://inleo.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-story).


People are not locked in like they are with social media.  To start, the [network effects](https://inleo.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-network-effect) for AI is less, at least at the surface level.  


We also have another aspect that could be heavily touted: the ability to own a piece of a model.  This is something that one is going to have with Meta or [Google](https://inleo.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-google-company).  The percentage of ownership the average person can acquire versus the whole is insignificant.


That is not the case with leo.


## Small Pond


Leo isn't going to be competing with the likes of Grok or Gemini.  These models operates in the hundreds of millions of users.  So does [ChatGPT](https://inleo.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-chatgpt).


Fortunately, we are not talking on this scale.


Another angle is the retrieval augemened generation aspect ot training.  Adding supplemental information to Leo has a major impact.  When doing this on X, it is basically nothing when considering the total amount of data posted daily.


Finally, there is the ability to operate without the same biases.  We know that models are designed to emphasize certain viewpoints while diminishing others.  This could be based upon ideology, pertain to NSFW content, or guns/drugs.


We are basically looking at a small pond in need of filling.  This is not going to be the ocean these major models are.  Instead, it i can be honed and fine tuned to meet community needs.


The [tokenization](https://inleo.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-tokenization) process means we are dealing with something that people can help to build.  As stated, the interest in social media is already embedded in most people.  network effects are not going to [work](https://inleo.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-work) in the favor of something like Hive.


AI, on the other hand, is a force mutiplier.  Increasing the number of users has an oversized impact since synthetic data is generated.  At this point in [time](https://inleo.io/@leoglossary/leoglossary-time), this is the only network effect that matters.


For these reasons, I think it is easier for an AI platform to reach 100K users than it is for social media to get to 10K.  The interest in the latter simply is not there.
