Austin is a major technological hub.  It is the home to Tesla's headquarters and latest factory.  Many California companies made it a destination.  Some are calling it **Silicon Valley 2.0**.

For this reason, it makes sense for the city to be on top of things when it comes to cryptocurrency.  The state already have a pro-crypto Governor who got on board with things, at least publicly, a year ago.

Now we could be seeing some moves for the City to establish itself as a hub for **cryptocurrency and blockchain innovation**.  Sound familiar?

This is becoming a trend among some of the different cities.  Miami and New York City already have mayors who are pro-crypto and stated they want their cities to be crypto hubs.

In other words, the race is on.

### Two resolutions Passed

The city council passed two resolutions.  While neither are Earth-shattering, they are steps in the right direction.

One opens up the exploration of the city accepting **cryptocurrency as a payment**.  This follows on the heels of the Governor of Florida issuing a edict to his state's departments.  In Austin, the city manager has until June to determine if the city can accept payment.

The other bill was one that uses blockchain technology to help homeless people keep their data.  Since they are often without the means of verifying some basic information, by putting it on blockchain, it is secured and a way to show the proper entities who they are dealing with.

What is truly important here is the capital of Texas is starting to talk about cryptocurrency and is taking steps to move in that direction.  Nothing was financialized at the moment but it is evident that the City wants to keep pace with what is going on.

This is also one of the cities that is being discussed at adding CityCoin.  Here we see the ability to generate some revenues through the mining of cryptocurrency.

### Governments Are Not Going To Be Denied

As more cities start to make moves, it is likely that others will follow.  It is like a dam breaking.  At first it is a just a hole in the brick that is leaking.  Over time, a few more holes crop up.  After a while, there is a pretty good flow of water coming through yet the majority is still blocked.

That us until the dam finally gives and the water comes rushing out.

With cryptocurrency, we are still looking for the first few holes.  They are there and a bit of water is flowing through.  This is only going to get stronger as the dam starts to weaken under the weight of the water.

Many are uncertain as to the future of cryptocurrency.  While none of us can accurately predict how it all will unfold, we do know that it will be part of the future.  There is no turning back now.

Nevertheless, politicians, especially at the Federal/National level believe it is possible.  This is hindered if more government entities start to embrace cryptocurrency in different forms.  Ultimately, they are not going to pass up the revenue that is coming in from this industry.  Those that get involved directly like Miami and NYC did stand to really gain if it all takes off.

It is not going to be easy to tell those entities they cannot be involved in cryptocurrency.

### The Race Is On

There is a clear line: those who are pro-crypto versus those who are against it.

As the battleground takes shape, it is interesting to see the pro-crypto side getting larger.  A few years ago, there were very few supporters.  Think about it: John McAfee was the biggest name when it came to advocacy.  Now we have the likes of Elon Musk and Mass Mutual involving themselves.

Within the United States, if things start to explode at the city level, it is going to get very difficult to contain things.  The Federal government has consistently run into issues when it tried to force states into compliance.  Over the last decade, we saw the situation with cannabis unfold in a way where the states basically told the Feds to screw off.

Cryptocurrency is going to be like that but on steroids.  If you think the revenues from cannabis are large, wait until you see what crypto does.  I am going to surmise that Miami will see more from the mining of Miamicoin in 2022 than they do from cannabis.

Basically, we just need to keep an eye on the direction different governments take.  While we do not need their consent for success, having a few entities that can stand in front of the Feds is not a bad thing.

Hopefully Austin starts to adopt cryptocurrency in different ways.
