# <center> _Well Hello There Fellow Technicians And Hivers!_ </center>






Today it's all about that little _Figo!_ 

Laughs well the story behind this car is a wild one! Or at the very least I think so, I think the owner is a wild card himself.

It was around a year ago when he first brought his vehicle in and I remember back then he didn't want to spend a lot of money but the problem he had was very small. I think it had something to do with the gear links and some bushings. But it was a easy job and the parts weren't all that much.


So last week he brought the car back to us with new but similar problems, well I say new because we sure as hell ain't going to fix his problems for free. Well not unless it was our problem which this is not.

He came in complaining that he can't select a gear and when it does it doesn't drive so all in all that points to where we worked right? Or does it?

## _Well I Might Be Wrong But That Looks Like Our Problem!_


No, I am being very sarcastic for anyone out there that might be pondering about things!


This guy really did some late night driving with an alcohol bottle that went with him on his journeys! Laughs okay no let's not get into the people and what they do. But with that said though this car does look like it was launched out of the line or some sort of racey racey stuff was done with it.

I've never seen a clutch plate so badly broken like this one, never ever before. I've seen a bunch where the actual clutch lining was ripped off but everything broken into pieces. Well that is something new! 

_Hey who said we do the same things over and over again! Laughs!_

_There is always and always some preparing work to do before being able to fit a transmission back into place._

I generally tend to put in a little more effort with these things than the average joe or bob, I like cleaning out the threads because there are always some sort of locktight pumped in there and then cleaning of the entire motor on the side of the transmission. It would not really help with the longevity of anything but it's a nice feeling knowing that it's all cleaned out.

With the fly-wheel fitted, all that is missing is the brand spanking new clutch! I am growing quite fond of this build, it doesn't even have a pilot bearing or bush. You just slap the transmission into place!

## _Oh The Pain Of Working Where Someone Else Was Working!_



Laughs, now this is a soul cringer! But hey at-least the oak who wore these bolts down had the guts to even get them out. He didn't come crawling back to me crying that the bolts can't come out. He made a plan and got them out himself so you know what for that I do have a lot of respect! This doesn't have every day, in-fact this doesn't happen ever!

_There were only two bad ones that I replaced but the rest were still okay for both bolting and unbolting._

## _It Still Gets Me Everytime!_


I don't know why but I don't think that amazing feeling of satisfaction would ever really die down when fitting brand new parts! Clutches are up at the top of that list for me! Laughs, probably because you can feel the amazing difference it makes when fitting a new one compared to that old worn out clutch.


_People frequently ask us, yeah but why can the clutch wear out so fast. Well the answer is simple take your foot of the clutch pedal because even the slightest touch can push the clutch a little bit. Remember you're working with leverage and that's it!_

## _Still Got Some Swapping To Do!_



Wow, these are brand new parts ordered straight from the _Ford_ dealership and just take a look at this!

Okay I know the photo came out a little blurry but the picture still does justice though. 

It doesn't matter now these parts have to be fitted, so off with the entire gear selector system so that it can be cleaned and re-fitted so that the transmission can go back into its place. 


They were very ganky and worn out, after I cleaned and dried everything I added a little _Copper-slip_ to everything that has some tension or torque working out on it.

_These Also Needed Replacement._


These are actually a common failure and I'm not exactly sure why bossman didn't order new ones. We have a lot of spares lying around in the workshop so we threw them in for free. They don't cost an arm and a leg.


But can you notice how these little white blocks wear out over time! It's unbelievable! It goes even faster for cars driving on dirt roads daily! A problem that _Ford_ would not happily fix, it's a small problem that requires a small fix but it means the client has to book the vehicle in for an assessment. 

_Crooky crooky if you ask me!_

## _She's Fitted Back Where She Belongs!_ 


After quite the struggle with this very small transmission to get it flush against the engine! I don't think I've ever had to struggle that hard with such a small transmission! 

At the end of the day it was the mounting falling into the way everytime I shifted the transmission. Laughs I only realized that when the old man was keeping an eye on the upper hand side of the transmission and he told me that I am screwing myself around!


_Laughs, so I decided to remove the mounting and it basically fell into place!_

## _Now As Always!_


I suppose now that the vehicle is done and needs to go to the open road to be thoroughly tested I can start this adventure by cleaning this... this pigsty I left here!


_Bossman always tells me, yeah if it was me that had to clean here I would not have made it so dirty! Now he has some truth there! He really does but it's not the easiest thing to keep a bay clean when needing to do so much work on a car! It really is physically impossible!_

_It probably isn't but still!_
