Manuel era una zarigüeya que vivía en el sureste de Venezuela, vivía solo y no tenía familia, la mayoría de sus hermanos habían muerto a manos de cazadores y otros habían sido capturados mientras intentaban encontrar comida, todo esto había hecho que Manuel desconfiara de todos los animales y además convirtió su corazón en piedra, Manuel había sufrido tanto que ahora se negaba a dar o recibir amor, él pensaba que si no volvía a amar estaría exento de sentir sufrimiento y dolor.

>Manuel was an opossum that lived in the southeast of Venezuela, he lived alone and had no family, most of his siblings had died at the hands of hunters and others had been captured while trying to find food, all this had made Manuel distrustful of all animals and also turned his heart to stone, Manuel had suffered so much that now he refused to give or receive love, he thought that if he did not love again he would be exempt from feeling suffering and pain.</div>

Manuel no era empático con nadie, era amargado, no hablaba con los otros animales e incluso se negaba a dar los buenos dias, para él solo su vida era importante y los problemas de los demas nunca le afectaban, incluso los problemas de los más pequeños de la comarca le resbalaban.

Pasó el tiempo y Manuel cada día fue tomando mala fama, ya nadie lo quería y todo el mundo le ignoraba, parecía que el corazón  de esta zarigüeya estaba muerto y que ya no era capaz de dar ni recibir amor, ya no era capaz de sentir simpatía por los demás.

Un día uno de sus vecinos no tenía nada para dar de comer a sus hijos y Manuel tenía el depósito lleno de comida, pero a Manuel no le importaba nada de esto y como los demás animales sabían de su actitud antipática nadie le tenía en cuenta.

>Manuel was not empathetic with anyone, he was bitter, he did not talk to the other animals and even refused to say good morning, for him only his life was important and the problems of others never affected him, even the problems of the smallest of the county slipped him.

>Time went by and Manuel was getting a bad reputation every day, nobody loved him anymore and everybody ignored him, it seemed that this possum's heart was dead and that he was no longer able to give or receive love, he was no longer able to feel sympathy for others.

>One day one of his neighbors had nothing to feed his children and Manuel had a tank full of food, but Manuel didn't care about any of this and since the other animals knew about his unfriendly attitude nobody took him into account.</div>

El vecino sabía que Manuel tenía mucha comida pero no sé atrevió a pedirle ayuda, él pensaba que lo más seguro era que  Manuel lo rechazara o posiblemente hasta se burlara.

 Además nunca espero a que Manuel le ofreciera ayuda, aunque era el más pudiente del barrio y para su sorpresa Manuel  aunque vio su necesidad nunca le ofrecía nada y era tan arrogante que hasta las arañas y los insectos se habían ido de su casa.

Un día paseando, Manuel tropezó con una enorme trampa y quedó atrapado en ella, de repente un escalofrío recorrió su cuerpo, sabía que iba a morir, eso era lo que le esperaba, seguro que cuando los humanos volvieran a revisar la trampa lo atraparían allí y muy probablemente lo utilizarían como comida.

Manuel esperó durante horas a que llegaran los humanos, pero nadie apareció, el miedo fue abandonando su cuerpo y se calmó, de repente empezó a meditar sobre su vida y se dio cuenta de que había sufrido mucho por intentar aprisionar su corazón, en numerosas ocasiones estuvo tentado para dar amor y sentir compasión, pero no lo hizo, únicamente recordaba su pasado y su corazón volvía a cerrarse, él no quería sufrir de nuevo y justificaba sus acciones para autoprotegerse. 

>The neighbor knew that Manuel had a lot of food but did not dare to ask him for help, he thought that Manuel would most likely reject him or possibly even make fun of him.

 >He also never waited for Manuel to offer him help, even though he was the wealthiest in the neighborhood and to his surprise Manuel never offered him anything even though he saw his need and he was so arrogant that even the spiders and insects had left his house.

>One day while walking, Manuel stumbled upon a huge trap and got caught in it, suddenly a shiver ran through his body, he knew he was going to die, that was what awaited him, for sure when the humans came back to check the trap they would catch him there and most likely use him as food.

>Manuel waited for hours for the humans to arrive, but no one appeared, the fear was leaving his body and he calmed down, suddenly he began to meditate on his life and realized that he had suffered a lot for trying to imprison his heart, on numerous occasions he was tempted to give love and feel compassion, but he did not do it, he only remembered his past and his heart closed again, he did not want to suffer again and justified his actions to protect himself. </div>

Las horas seguían pasando y los humanos no llegaban, a medida que la noche iba apareciendo, los animales iban llegando a donde él se encontraba, Manuel pensó que habían ido a burlarse de él o a echarle en cara las veces que no les ayudaba, pero en realidad su vecino, el  que había pasado hambre junto con sus hijos,  hoy era el que le estaba ayudando, y  mostrando amor.


El vecino reunió todas las herramientas necesarias y junto con los demás animales lograron liberar a Manuel de aquella trampa mortal, después de liberarlo nadie le dijo nada, solo recogieron sus cosas y se marcharon del lugar. Manuel al ver tanta compasión se puso a llorar, tantas veces él pudo hacer algo por los demás y nunca hizo nada, aquello definitivamente había sido una gran muestra de amor de sus vecinos.

Al día siguiente Manuel no sabía como mirar o tratar a los vecinos, sin duda su amor y el nulo remordimiento rompió la coraza de piedra que tenia Manuel en su corazón.

>The hours continued to pass and the humans did not arrive, as the night was coming, the animals were arriving to where he was, Manuel thought they had gone to mock him or to throw in his face the times he did not help them, but in reality his neighbor, the one who had been hungry along with his children, today was the one who was helping him, and showing love.


>The neighbor gathered all the necessary tools and together with the other animals they managed to free Manuel from that mortal trap, after freeing him nobody said anything to him, they just gathered his things and left the place. Manuel saw so much compassion and began to cry, so many times he could have done something for others and never did anything, that had definitely been a great show of love from his neighbors.

>The next day Manuel did not know how to look at or treat the neighbors, no doubt their love and no remorse broke the stone armor that Manuel had in his heart.</div>

Hoy Manuel es una zarigüeya que ayuda a todo el mundo, siempre saluda y está dispuesto a dar amor sin recibir nada a cambio, a veces nuestras acciones y amor pueden deshacer un corazón de piedra.
