The community development comprises the following principles:-The principle of self-help, The principle of felt-need, The principle of citizen participation, The principle of self-growth, The principle of self-reliance.

*THE PRINCIPLE OF SELF-HELP*: This is the main end product of community development that enables people to exploit their advantage, the resource which would, otherwise be dormant. Make use of underutilised labour.
Increase the competence and confidence of a community in the handling of affairs. Constitutes a prerequisite for survival in the modern world. Enables people to change the way they look at their responsibilities, and helps them to cultivate the sense of local initiatives and effort. Enhances the development of democratic values and processes. Promotes the idea of ultimate control by the people. Fosters a substantial degree of freedom by individuals and group. Leads to a considerable amount of government decentralisation. Promotes widespread citizen participation.

*THE PRINCIPLE OF FELT NEED*: This stress that the people must be able to identify what they want to do in order to achieve their desired development. This is possible if they are able to do understand what stands in their way to progress and are able to do something to remove it. The obstacle is known as the problem of such community. The idea of need arises from the lack or absence of something which, in the opinion of such a population, would facilitate the improvement of the welfare of the community if it had been present or available. Hence anything which may be considered essential for the maintenance of a desired state of affairs is a need. A need represent an imbalanced or lack of adjustment between a present situation or conditions, and a new and changed set of conditions assumed to be more desirable. A need therefore exposes the problem, as it implies a gap between the two conditions of what really exists in the life of a community.
