Se preguntarán cómo una mujer como yo termina condenada a morir quemada viva en la hoguera. Les daré una pequeña retrospectiva de una serie de eventos desafortunados que cambiaron mi vida para siempre.  He vivido toda mi vida en esta comunidad, trabajo la tierra y sostengo a mi familia con lo que produzco. Me siento plana y feliz al ver que puedo hacerlo sola, no les mentiré, no es nada fácil pero me gusta la satisfacción que me genera. 

Soy una mujer sin esposo y por lo tanto estoy bajo el ojo vigilante de toda esta sociedad, en la que siento que no encajo. 

Una mañana de otoño, estaba fresco el día y comenzó a correr el viento un poco fuerte. Mis hijos entraron corriendo a la casa y un árbol viejo terminó cayendo sobre el pozo y quedó el tronco atravesado en la entrada de la casa. 

Por más que me gusta hacer las cosas a mí misma, von esto no pude y me vi en la penosa situación de acudir al vecino de la granja lechera. Vino casi que de inmediato con su hacha en mano y un par de obreros de la granja. En medio día habían cortado todo el tronco y estaba la casa despejada. Me sentí feliz y eternamente agradecida con estos hombres de buen corazón.

Al día siguiente, cuando los niños se fueron a la escuela, tocaron la puerta y era el vecino de la granja lechera. Me sorprendió pero abrí la puerta y lo mandé a pasar mientras le ofrecía café y me disculpaba por el desorden de los niños. 

Aquel hombre se instaló en la sala de mi humilde cabaña y me hizo saber que venía a cobrar el favor del día anterior. Quedé sin palabras porque no tenía dinero y eso no fue lo acordamos la mañana anterior.

El hombre se puso de pie y me preguntó qué tan resistente era mi cama. Yo tomé un sartén de la cocina y le hice saber que me estaba faltando el respeto y que era mejor que se fuera de mi casa antes de que comenzara a gritar.

El hombre salió furioso de la cabaña y se volteó con una mirada amenazante desde la cerca del jardín mientras me gritaba que iba a arrepentirme por mi comportamiento.

Entré a la casa y mis manos temblaban de rabia. No podía creer lo que había pasado. Pensé que ese mal entendido quedaría así y me fui a recolectar las zanahoria. 

Ese mismo día por la tarde, fui a la tienda del pueblo por harina para hacer el pan de la cena. Cada paso que daba en el pueblo las personas me miraban y comentaba. En forma de secreto alguna cosa en voz baja. 

Seguí avanzando en el mostrador y la mujer de la tienda dio media vuelta y me dejó sola. Me sentí muy incómoda y molesta así que regresé a mi casa.

En el camino una mujer, que parecía molesta, me gritó ***bruja*** y todos la apoyaron.

Resulta que el vecino de la granja lechera, le dijo a todo el pueblo que yo lo había hechizado y que ahora se le caía el pelo y se sentía débil.

Los siguientes días se hicieron insoportables para mi y mis hijos. Todos nos daban la espalda h nadie nos hablaba así que decidí que nadie salia de casa hasta tener una solución a esto.

Ayer en la mañana llegaron dos policías a mi cabaña. Me leyeron un decreto que dictaba el gobernador y me pidieron que los acompañara. Prácticamente me sacaron a empujones y me metieron en una especia de jaula. Cuando pasó la caravana por el pueblo hasta la oficina del gobernador, todos gritaban ¡Bruja,bruja! Por las calles.

Fue imposible dialogar en mi juicio. Todos tenían acusaciones falsas y finalmente dieron el veredicto: morir quemada en la hoguera para evitar que le hiciera daño a la comunidad. 

Y aquí estoy. Nunca les demostré que soy una bruja. Vivo en paz y tranquila pero ellos querían perjudicarme. No saben que cuando una bruja está en contacto con el fuego una maldición cae sobre todos aquellos que la están atacando. Esa será mi venganza.

# Confessions of a woman condemned to be burned at the stake

You may wonder how a woman like me ends up condemned to die burned alive at the stake. I will give you a short retrospective of a series of unfortunate events that changed my life forever.  I have lived all my life in this community, I work the land and support my family with what I produce. I feel flat and happy to see that I can make it on my own, I won't lie to you, it is not easy but I like the satisfaction it gives me. 

I am a woman without a husband and therefore I am under the watchful eye of this whole society, in which I feel I don't fit in. 

One autumn morning, the day was cool and the wind started to blow a little strong. My kids came running into the house and an old tree ended up falling over the well and the trunk was stuck in the driveway. 

As much as I like to do things myself, I couldn't do it myself and had to go to the neighbor at the dairy farm. He came almost immediately with his axe in hand and a couple of farm hands. In half a day they had cut the whole log and the house was clear. I was happy and eternally grateful to these kind-hearted men.

The next day, when the children left for school, there was a knock on the door and it was the neighbor from the dairy farm. I was surprised but I opened the door and sent him in while I offered him coffee and apologized for the children's mess. 

That man took up residence in the living room of my humble cabin and let me know he was coming to collect for the previous day's favor. I was speechless because I had no money and that was not what we had agreed upon the morning before.

The man stood up and asked me how sturdy my bed was. I grabbed a frying pan from the kitchen and let him know that he was disrespecting me and that he had better get out of my house before he started yelling.

The man stormed out of the cabin and turned with a menacing look from the garden fence as he yelled at me that I was going to regret my behavior.

I walked into the house and my hands were shaking with rage. I couldn't believe what had happened. I thought that this misunderstanding would stay that way and went to collect the carrots. 

That same day in the afternoon, I went to the village store for flour to make bread for dinner. Every step I took in the village people looked at me and commented. In a secretive way something in a low voice. 

I kept moving forward at the counter and the woman at the store turned around and left me alone. I felt very uncomfortable and annoyed so I went back to my house.

On the way a woman, who looked annoyed, yelled ***witch*** at me and everyone backed her up.

Turns out the neighbor at the dairy farm, told the whole town that I had hexed him and now his hair was falling out and he felt weak.

The next few days became unbearable for me and my children. Everyone turned their backs on us and no one would talk to us so I decided that no one would leave the house until I had a solution to this.

Yesterday morning two policemen came to my cabin. They read me a decree issued by the governor and asked me to accompany them. They practically pushed me out and put me in a kind of cage. When the caravan went through town to the governor's office, everyone was shouting "Witch, witch! through the streets.

It was impossible to have a dialogue at my trial. They all had false accusations and finally gave the verdict: to be burned at the stake to prevent me from harming the community. 

And here I am. I never proved to them that I am a witch. I live in peace and quiet but they wanted to harm me. They don't know that when a witch is in contact with fire a curse falls on all those who are attacking her. That will be my revenge.
