So what's going on here exactly? Well, today I remembered that there is a process often associated with glitch art, and such, called pixel sorting where you use a program/script/algorithm/whatever to selectively sort pixels in an image. 

And then I remembered I still hadn't learned how to do it myself, so, yeah. 

The script most commonly used for pixel sorting was written by Kim Asendorf in the Processing language. There is another Processing script written by Jeff Thompson which is also quite popular. So, it seems Processing is the way to go if you're interested in the ins and outs of this kind of thing. There are also a bunch of browser based apps that let you do the same things to an image if you're not arsed with all the high tech gobbledygook, but where's the fun in that?

All that being said, and me being me, I decided to look for other options. I wasn't bothered to download anything to do with Processing because I already have both Python and Ruby on my laptop from various experiments over the last year or so, plus I can be awful lazy at times. So I decide to look around for something based around either of those two languages and eventually find this: https://github.com/czycha/pxlsrt a nice little pixel sorter CLI built in Ruby.

Anyway, I've been playing around with it for the last few hours and the images I shared above are some of the results of my experiments. I've got to be honest, having to input commands in a command line isn't the most fun thing to do, but it's certainly something to do.

I'll probably share a few more of these over the next few days if I manage to stay interested enough and/or manage to create some interesting images.
