Feathered Friends - Show Me A Photo Contest Round 72

Good day to all of the #featheredfriends out there enjoying our ever entertaining flying friends.
With this week's #SMap being **BIRD STANDING ON ONE LEG,** I'd like to share with the community the following pictures I captured of a Merlin Falcon last year. When I first spotted this falcon, it was perched on the branch of an evergreen tree just 20 yards from our front door. This guy stayed in this position for so long I thought this majestic bird had only one leg. I came to the  conclusion that this poor falcon had succumbed to some type of trauma.

I was amazed how well this fellow could stay perfectly balanced on just one leg. 
I figured that this feat had come from years of  negotiating  life, for years, with this condition.**</center>

**After admiring this guy for about ten minutes and satisfying my urge to take as many pics as possible, I went into the house to let @farm-mom in on the excitement. I figured that the Merlin would stay put long enough for my better half to see the one legged falcon as well. After we both observed this fellow for another five minutes, and I had snapped off another dozen pics or so, I realized that the one legged bird was now grasping the branch with his opposite leg.**

**Now we wanted to see the Merlin with both legs exposed so I decided to start making some noise. The falcon immediately peered down at me and looked as if he was wondering what the heck I was doing. Just before flying off he reveled his second leg which was hidden from view under his tuff of chest feathers.**

**So there you have it, a bird standing on one leg. I was happy to see that his second leg was just hidden from sight and that he was not handicapped at all.**

Thanks, this fellow stayed in that tree for about 15 minutes before flying off.

95% of the time the bird stood on one leg or the other.

That's a great question. Someone suggested that the bird was warming it's leg by tucking it under it's feathers.
