SUNROOM, BUCKLED UP TIGHT AS AN OYSTER!

With our son returning for a couple more days, my hope was to complete the exterior of the sunroom. There was a lot that would have to be accomplished over the two days he would be here.
The very first thing we did was to install all four windows.
When the framing of the rough opening for windows is done correctly, installation is a breeze. It only took us an hour to have all of the glass set.

Next up was to hang the exterior door. Once again, the key to having a door operate correctly is to create a rough opening that is square, plumb, and level. This job can be done alone, but an extra set of hands makes installation so much easier.

Once the door and windows were in place, our plan was to start siding the sunroom.

As the first day came to an end, we were set up to start the siding the next day.

Wanting a rustic look for the exterior, I went with a board and batten system. Eastern White Hemlock is a great wood to use in this application as it stands up to the elements for years. Most of the old barns in this area were sided with this type of wood.
The boards used for the siding are 1" thick and 8" in width.

Yup, that is snow you see in this pic, and as the day progressed more and more of that white stuff started to fly around.

Time for a break, @farm-mom had a big meal ready to go, and when it's time to eat I only need to be called once.

With the battens covering the seams of the first side that we had completed, it was time to tackle the gable end.

Things were moving along very nicely and hobbitizing while it snowed was kind of fun.

With most of the boards installed we were closing in on completing this side.

As the daylight hours were dwindling and the snow falling even harder, there was no time for any more breaks, dinner would have to wait.

By quitting time we had accomplished everything we had set out to do. I have worked side by side with all three of my sons and it is always a pleasure.
@ryan313 left that evening after chowing down. In the morning I would be buckling up a few odds and ends, at least that was my plan.

What is it that they say about plans, they often go astray? Well, in this case, hobbitizing on the roof while it was covered in snow was impossible. It took a few days for the snow to melt from the roof before I could finish with the punch list. The very first thing I wanted to tackle was reworking the siding that was removed in order to frame and shingle the roof.

Yes, I am gloating just a little bit. I'm a firm believer in (USE IT OR LOSE IT!)
I want to do everything that I can still do now for as long as I can.

@farm-mom and I are headed to Florida for a while and finishing the interior will have to wait, until when I'm not sure.
When we return to this wonderful little piece of dirt, it will be time to yell timber in preparation for next winter, it will be time to bask in all that Mother Nature has to offer while making maple syrup, it will be time to germinate and nurture. With these items being dictated by the calendar, and occupying # 1-3 on the list, hopefully, I'll still have enough time to finish farm-mom's sunroom before getting some new parts.
