Hello,

I’m new to the blockchain and all things cryptocurrency related, but keen to learn more as I go. This is my first post, so please be gentle with the comments. I’m still figuring out this platform.

ENS domain squatting.

We have now seen almost two months pass since the release of the Ethereum ENS domain service. Many names registered with some having serious investment behind them. An example being Exchange.ETH Exchange has a value of 6,660 ETH and the highest bid in the auction was 12,888 ETH that is serious amounts of ETH/cash tied up for the next 12 months.

Who is dropping this type of money on a name? Exchange only being an example.

I can understand companies looking to protect their brand, and preparing for the future use of the Ethereum blockchain, but seriously???? Biding 12,888 ETH

I’m guessing a lot of the bids will be with the intention of squatting like the old days of the .COM I can’t believe I just referred to the.COM days as the old days, but kind of true as we move forward to the next generation of the internet.

Does an opportunity exist to make money from holding an ETH address? I’ve personally been lucky enough to register my full name unlike the .COM. but not with the intention of ever selling it on. Is there even a marketplace for trading the names? I suspect not yet, but an opportunity for someone.

I guess time will tell if anyone has made any money from. ETH addresses squatting.
