I've been trying to figure out if accepting Crypto in general is a good idea and if so if accepting Hive is a smart business move. While I'd love to take Crypto getting my average everyday customers on board with this idea might be more work then it's worth. Wondering if anyone else has done this in their retail location. If so how are you accepting payment and are you offering any sort of incentive for customers who do so?

At the current state I think it'll be pretty risky. You'll have to price your items to compensate for fluctuations in crypto, especially the negative. Relatively it's good for the space to propel adoption. So ultimately you'll have to decide if you want to be an innovator and deal with the sacrifice that goes with it.

I'm willing to take on some risk if I can figure out how to pull it off. Being at the forefront of a movement can be very profitable...or a complete and total loss, but sometimes you need to take some risk in business.

I don't know if you caught it or not, so here is a link - https://peakd.com/hiveblockchain/@hiveio/join-the-sequoir-ama-tomorrow-live-video-q-and-a-on-april-18-7pm-pdt They don't offer in Alaska, but maybe where you are a credit card company that offers buy sell trade accept crypto currencies. Might be worth looking into to see if they are licensed for your area.

I think its a good move, I heard there's now also a Wordpress plugin for accepting HIVE as a payment option for eCommerce sites too. HIVE is not big here in SA very few people know about it but i'd be open to taking it as a payment method should I work with a HIVE holder

This is one option for sure. Sell online here and then ship. Guess one of the biggest issues might be trust as people would have to send payment first and it can't be reversed. But hopefully I've been around long enough people know me. So many issues to try and figure out with all of this. So I sell Comics and toys (mainly vintage). Is this something you would be interested in? Maybe if you let me know what you are looking for you could be my first customer.

Welcome to Hive. I checked a little while back and thought you were staying at Steem. Glad you came over. Accepting Hive would be a gamble. As you mention, most people frequenting the store will never have heard of it. Then you face the task of trying to explain all the hoops they would need jump through to actually acquire some. Unless you are prepared to help people enter the world of crypto, prepared to walk them through whatever exchanges they need to so then they can finally transfer from their wallet to yours I wouldn't plan on getting much out of it. After all that's said and done, one of the largest problems with Bitcoin (and alts) being used as currency are the wild fluctuations both ways. Imagine selling an item for Bitcoin back when it was peaking at 20K, only to watch yourself take a massive loss for the next couple years (and counting). Or the reverse for the customer, like the guy who spent a crapload of Bitcoin for one pizza back when Bitcoin was so cheap. You would have to not need the income from those sales and use it as a gamble on the future that the value would be far greater than a fiat sale on the spot. I've toyed with the idea of selling online for Hive, only to escape the hoops that have kept me from investing anymore so far. But figuring the cost of a website and doxxing myself has kept me from that as well. Looking forward to seeing what you do and if anyone is interested that walks into your shop. Speaking of your shop, I seem to recall you were opening a store right before the shutdown. Did it ruin the store for you, or were you able to somehow make it through ok?

Going to answer in reverse...yes we opened 2 days before the shutdown in IL and it's been a shitshow since. The amount of effort it took to keep things moving along online with FB sales and ebay to cover our normal bills and now the overhead of the store was staggering. On top of all of this we also lost our shows which for the last 8 years have been paying our bills. Timing sucked to say the least...but we survived and now can be open at 50% capacity, but 100% capacity would never likely be reached in our store anyways so it's like I'm fully open. I wouldn't want to explain anything to new people...don't have the time. But if I could market to people on Hive for say their weekly comic book subscription or other collectibles maybe that would be worth the effort and help show a use case for the coin which hopefully would increase it's value long term. The change in value does worry me. I actually sold a car for Steem when steem was near $1. Obviously that didn't work out so good for me.

In general, I think it is a great idea. It gives crypto, in general, a more "real" status if you can use it in a bricks-and-mortar store. Obviously, that's risky and only you, as a business owner, can decide whether it's a risk you're able/willing to take. I can't help with the details though, so I hope someone else can. It's good to see you posting here again.

Risk vs Reward is always the issue.
