A very very good morning!
Beep beep beep, 04:30! Good morning Tamara, good mornig Steffen!

We woke up, the clothes were already prepared the day before. We went down to the kitchen and after a quick breakfast with coffee and biscuits, we went for our destination - Matajur/Montemaggiore from Italian side. 

Once we steppted out of the car, we realized how windy and cold it was. After with already frozen heads when putting on all extra clotheses, Steffen said to me that once we start it will be warm, we had still one hour hike ahead of us - let's go, let's go! 

The night was still pitch black and without the headlight we would not find the way through the deep snow. On the Italian side we could see the city lights far away and the stars were shinning very bright. 
With runny noses and tears in our eyes,
we walked slowly but consistently higher and higher.

After around a half an hour we came on the top of the hill, very close to our goal. There was a signboard telling us we need to go right. After a short time we realized, because sinking every step a half meter deep into the snow, that this path was impossible. Almost crawling on the floor, trying to reach the top, Steffen became very upset as he was scared to miss the sunrise from the top of the hill. We turned around and went back to the signboard, and from there went straight up the hill where the path was already made, but not so easily identified before. Now already slowly the light came to fight the darkness. We really started sweating as the last 500 meter was quite a steep elevation. Steffen was almost running and disappering out of my view.

On the top we discovered the fantastic scenery of the Alps and on the sky were some amazing cloud formation.

We found a more protective spot from the harsh wind behind the church. Here we sat down and enjoyed a cup of hot tea and biscuites. It took around half an hour more until the sun was finally appearing. 
With cold feets and even colder hands, we walked around the location and enjoyed every angle of the light.

On a small signboard we have seen the directions for mountains around, and we could see even the Dolomites.

After one hour of freezing it was time to turn around. That was our first weekend experience and even suffering from the cold, it was 100% worth it!

Since many people walk this paths, it was luckly not so difficult to navigate through the snow 🥶 in between it was just pure joy disappering in a bunch of snow 🥲
The cotton candy sky and sun beams were amazing! They were moving quite slow, hence it was not so difficult to capture them :)
