Lately my hubby and I have been watching HOUSE. We both enjoy it but something has been bothering me... It is the amount of illnesses named after people, at first I thought maybe I'm wrong but with a bit of searching I found at least 13 and guess what... most of them are fatal. Here is what bugs me, who in their right mind would name a disease after themselves or their family name? Here are some examples: Alzheimers, Salmonellosis (bet you didn't know salmonella was named after a person), Parkinson's, Huntington's, Hodgkin's lymphoma etc So here is a question, if you researched and discovered a deadly bacteria or disease, would you use your name to name it? Would you forever want to be remembered as a illness? I personally might name a virus after someone I hate. Scientists, do you hate your family? Can you imagine how little Johnny Alzheimer must be treated in school because his family name is also now a disease... tisk ,tisk. .jpg) Some people may look at this like... The answer is no, I wish I had that level of nerd in me. I'm just honestly looking for an answer as to why anyone would like to be known as a disease, it's almost like being know for being Hitler's grandchild, or am I wrong? Please let me know in the comment section below why you think scientists do that, if you would do that and why. Here is another meme, just because science .jpg) A wacky Wednesday to all. It's more like people marking their spot having discovered the said disease.

Sometimes, stuff (not only illness, but good things, new chemical elements, etc.) is named in honor of someone who worked hard on the field by others, to show their recognition for their work For Parkinson for instance, this is how it worked. I don't know for the other diseases.

My guess would be that other people start referring to the condition or disease by the name of the person that wrote about it the most and who introduced it to them. Naming something after a person is an honor in all fields of science and since medicine studies disease, that's what gets named after people that have advanced the field I guess. But I don't think that the people themselves proposed those being named after them.
