Typical Good Day: Birds, Sea and Rocks

In any corner of the world that is washed by the sea, on a hot summer day, both children and adults dream of dropping everything and being on the coast to rush towards the refreshing waves and wash away the heat and routine.  Well, or almost in any…

Yes, we are here running to the sea on a hot summer day too, but these are not such hot days as we would like, and not such a sea in which it is worth refreshing ourselves. However, this does not negate the fact that many Northerners tend to spend as much time as possible on the water in the summer

Everyone has different reasons. For someone, this is a temporary income - to ride tourists along the shores. For some, the profession and family work of many generations is fishing. Some even really try to sunbathe and swim. Well, for me, this is an opportunity to feel the sea wind in my beard and get to places where my lens has not been before.

And the back of a nuclear submarine appeared in the distance, at the entrance to the coast, seemed to me a good sign promising interesting finds today.

I will not beat around the bush any further, and immediately brag about the purpose of my little walk - a colony of Thin-billed kaira on islands far from the coast.

If you remember, not so long ago I visited a cormorant colony on the coast, where I almost died from the suffocating stench of the feces of many generations of beautiful birds. This time I didn't dare to swim too close...

In fact, it's not the smell that's to blame, because everything here smells of sea breeze and salt, the islands are blown from all sides of the world. And the fact that now the kaira are nesting, and these guys are a little more aggressive than cormorants

Maybe because they meet people less often here, and have not yet got used to such an unknown neighborhood. But I did not swim up to them from the side of the nests, photographed only adults.

And they're just beautiful. Usually people say about penguins that they seem to be dressed up in tuxedos. Well, kaira are no less presentable in this regard, but even more beautiful. Like ladies in elegant black dresses.

The bird creator in their case used only two colors as effectively as possible.

It turned out to be quite difficult to control the boat and try to catch the focus, and even monitor the mood of the birds. So satisfied with a couple of good shots, I went home.

A wonderful summer evening made me linger a little on the shore upon arrival, and I decided to drive a little further, to the rocky coves, hoping to take a few landscape shots. But it turned out to be an exceptionally bird's day. And an ordinary seagull struck me with its harsh flight. To increase the epicness of the moment, turn on Wagner's music.

It was a typical good day. Not magical, and not special, maybe a little memorable. I think I've had many similar Tuesdays and there will be no less, I hope. But it impresses with its harmony and the ideal degree of "good", which did not tire me with emotions and feelings, but simply allowed me to relax.

Little Puffin looks a little out of sort in among all the rest, tell tale beak in the crowded water, good sighting!

Smell must be quite strong close up to the breeding rocks, don't blame you for not getting up too close and personal.

I used to see them only off the coast of Svalbard, and then alone. That's why I didn't even pay attention to him in the crowd. Maybe it's some kind of behavior change that helps them survive, I hope.

If you would not have mentioned it, then I would not have noticed it. I am a bird lover. And animal lover in general. If I think about the future, then it is sad to think that the future generations will see some of the species we saw alive only on photos and on videos. There are many endangered animals. Some of them almost extinct.

The good side is the fact that the extinction of some species has been prevented by human intervention. The bad side is the fact that some extinctions has been caused by humans.

For example the Falkland Islands wolf. It was hunted, until it went extinct. Mankind did good things, mankind did bad things, and mankind did terrible/horrible things. This is our history. We have to live with it.

Of course you're right. But in fact, our generation and the generation of our parents have not seen a lot of species already. As far as I remember, in just the last 100 years we have reduced the diversity of the animal and plant world by about 60%... 

I mean, maybe our children won't even experience this painful feeling, as we didn't have time to experience. And only you and I will sigh sadly, not finding a bird familiar to us in places familiar from childhood...
