Our False Connection with Others:

I want you to imagine this. There are two persons A and B. A sides himself with the Fire party while B sides himself with the Water party.

A is trying to convince B to join his party. He tries to use facts to win over B but B is not convinced. From B's perspective the facts presented are false. The conversation keeps going back and forth by eventually a fight plunges.

**Now lets' try the same situation but with a twist....**

Again A is trying is win over B to join his party. This time ,however, A addresses similarities between Him and B before delving into their differences. To our surprise B agree with A on a number of matters and agrees to think about joining A and his party.

**The Question is Why?!....**

Well in order to understand what happened here we need to look at the atmosphere A sets in both situations.

In the first Conversation,
A used facts to change B's mind Now you would think that presenting someone with true facts will prompt the person to change his/her false views. What ends happening ,however, is that when a person's views are challenged it requires him/her a high cost to accept that evidence which contradicts his/her beliefs.

This ofcourse explains why fact checking has little to no effect  when it comes to debunking myths .

**Then what should we do....**

Well the key is understanding. Instead of saying this person is right and this person is wrong we should approch a topic with a level of caution. We should break a large problem into small and managenable sections. This allows us to identify key points of difference making it easier to negotiate them and find common ground.

Always Remember Good Ideas come from Prosperous conversation.

A useful post, that can help come to a common ground.

The one thing it doesn't address is IQ - with  2 parties, and only of them with an IQ able to digest the information,(facts figures) a problem arises as I see it, and one not easily reconciled.
Unfortunately, the lower IQ individual, will always back into an emotional response, especially if feeling under pressure-and especially if that person is very aware he can't comprehend the facts presented to him, and feels insecure.
Even if the component parts are broken down to minuscule size pieces.

I'm not saying this approach won't move the conversation forward.(hopefully). It will be helpful in many cases.

I just think you have to be very aware of the level of intelligence you are dealing,with, relative to the topic in discussion.

 Depending on the topic, it might be a waste of your time....
