<br>

Adventure games are a fairly unexplored terrain when we get into modern video games, at first they are taken as limited experiences without any trace of desirable gameplay but more recently I have been able to perceive them as a cleaner and undistracted method of meditative and in many cases slow storytelling, where gameplay can more than enrich the experience, hinder the story being told, of course this is not an optimal angle when talking about video games but it is one that after so much time playing they are appreciated. Video games like Where the Water Taste Like Wine are a sea of possibilities for fascinating stories that depend exclusively on a script and the performance of its actors, and I have not been disappointed at least as an audiovisual experience.
> ### Stare into the abyss and jump, graphic novels trying to survive the video game.
<br>
To make this post short, I'll say that this video game is as close to a decades old adventure game as you can get. A limited gameplay that in the playable field only leaves us a somewhat outdated exploration system, but in the narrative field instantly nails you a little more than 200 stories about the American West with an optimal development of each of its protagonists, a graphic novel in all its splendor that grabs its aesthetics, its script and its setting to make us walk through the desert, at a slow pace yes, but with an adventure that if you have patience can be one of those few truly different experiences you find in the middle.

The period is the great depression of the 20s, and although the game could explore the individual experiences of these years what it really wants is to surprise, so we are an aimless drifter who after losing a poker game against some of the most dangerous people in the country we must escape and search for stories with which we can settle our debt, an improbable journey through the America of those years where legends abound and the means of information are very few, the world is one full of surrealism that can be seen thanks to a spectacular visual art, limited by the nature of the retro video game, but that genuinely contributes to the story, the stories are represented by tarot cards and in them we can see varied topics such as revenge, love or melancholy, all behind an enviable cast that makes iconic each story that we tell.

Each of the characters, situations or elements that are presented to us in each of these stories accompanies us and interconnects with others that we play later, the essence of this world of the old west is that we can see similarities that attract us to think of that North American folk culture of the beginning of the century where each culture had its own hallmarks and all the inhabitants had that kind of shared culture, in the same way the plot of Where the Water Taste Like Wine takes shape, a series of almost legendary tales that take shape at every step and every new person we meet, it has a pace that will repel most of the audience right away, but those who are patient enough will see the path illuminated by the wanderers, possibly the most interesting characters in the whole game.

The plot progresses with a peculiar progress system where one eye opens little by little each time we encounter one of these strangers. At first it will be difficult to snatch some information from them but as we meet them more frequently we will gain their trust and with it new chapters of their lives and therefore more coins, it is not the most sophisticated thing you can ask for in a graphic novel but it is understood that there is a gamification process that the game has to be part of.

The gameplay, as often happens with many of these titles that sacrifice the playable facet to put more effort to the staging or dialogue, is not the best, in fact, if I ever get to get into a similar game I do not think I advance too much, Where the Water Taste Like Wine is one of those difficult titles that pass through the market without shame or glory, but I think many players should give a chance to this facet, much calmer and slower video games, at least sometime you have to change of scenery even a little.
