Earlier this year, I explored Unicef's GIGA project that attempts to connect students in the world's less developed areas with internet connectivity.  At that time, they mentioned Blockchain was part of their project, but I had no understanding of what that meant.  After much research in my current course, I have a clearer understanding of what Blockchain technology is an the applications it can provide.   In October of 2019, Unicef announced that had created its new Unicef Cryptocurrency Fund.  At that time, it was the first United Nations organization to accept, hold, and disperse funds through Bitcoin and Ether.  Their goal at that time was to fund open source technology to underserved children around the world.    More recently, Unicef Ventures team has reported blockchain technology as having the folowing three benifits:  "1) leveraging innovative financing models to distribute resources; 2) increasing the efficiency and transparency of internal processes, and; 3) incentivising and encouraging the creation of open-source digital public goods. "  Unicef has gone far beyond the  Cryptocurrency Fund in terms of their utiliation of Blockchain.  Check out the folowing links for their innovative and exciting applications of Blockchain!
