on the hunt

Food is by far the most important thing for a bear during the summer period. They need to put on the kilos to not only survive hibernation but for males they need to eat in order to get big and strong so they stand a chance of mating with a female, chasing away competing bears and also be large enough to forage at optimal areas of a river.

Females need a lot of food for hibernation as well but on top of that they need the extra fat layers for if they are pregnant, lactate and to feed, protect and teach their young cubs for 2 years before parting ways. To say that females are impressive just isn't enough to really truly describe their lives.
