How Centralization Began

https://s5.postimg.org/vwa1mafl3/tower.jpg

One of the basic instincts of humanity is fear. And when people are made to be afraid, they are easily lead to give their authority to another in exchange for security. One of the first examples of this in human history is documented in the Biblical book of Genesis. After the flood in the days of Noah it says, “And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.” Gen. 9:2-3. Because the animals were now fearful, and subject to being eaten, they tended to become hostile toward humans. And when one considers that certain predatory animals like lions and bears reproduce much faster than humans, then humans were not the top of the food chain in the generations after the flood.

Such an environment was ripe for making a hunter into a hero, and protector of the human race. That is exactly what is stated as happening. “And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord.” Gen. 10:8-9. In their sense of security, it goes on say what the people did next.

“And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.” Gen. 11:1-4.

It continues with the consequences of this action. “And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.” Gen. 11:5-8.

When the people were driven to the different parts of the earth, they took the knowledge of a centralized system of monarchy (that Nimrod invented) with them to use as a template on how they would establish their separate civilizations. They also took with them a knowledge of God, and the plan of redemption. This is why many indigenous cultures have a belief in a virgin birth of a redeemer generations before Jesus appeared on the scene of history.

The nation of Israel, which God had established himself, had degenerated into a centralized monarchy centuries before the time of Jesus. And after he had departed, there were attempts to centralize the Church. And while the adversary was never able to make the Church a centralized institution, he did succeed in establishing a centralized institution that claimed to be the Church by the authority of the state while the genuine believers were having to live in obscurity for over a millennium.

If the reader is interested in examining a historical account of these events, I would highly recommend the book, The Two Babylons, by Alexander Hislop. It can be accessed for free here.

@alanfreestone ·
I'm confused, you seem to be using the Bible as a historical document, rather than a religious text containing allegories?

Thank you for sharing this bro, I am thinking now if God will be happy with the centralization of fund like bitcoin? Or if this will be the beginning of one world currency? Thanks

@timothyb ·
Actually, Bitcoin is a decentralized currency. A one world currency in itself is not evil, it is when there is an agreement against the law of God that it becomes something that brings on the wrath of God.

When said the part about being driven to the different parts of the earth I was reminded of the flood and just how many different civilizations from all over the world have a flood story.
