<h1>Encryption: If you've got nothing to hide, why do you need your privacy? </h1>

The answer is simple: Why do you wear clothes? Why do you have window-shades? Why do you not tell your friends, or even strangers, every single secret you have?
 
Because privacy actually is important. We don't go outside naked. We don't talk about our kinks in front of strangers. We don't talk about your personal feelings to random people on the street. We like to keep things private.
 
Privacy for the sake of privacy is very sensible and normal. Including your online communications as part of what should be private in your life is to be expected. It's actually quite strange to think a person, even a government in charge of "security", would have the expectation that they should be able to know all your secrets and invade your privacy. Being able to look at your private conversations you have with your friends should not be allowed. Sadly, it is.
 
 
 
But there's another more terrifying answer: With the current set of laws that the government enforces, so many things are illegal, that if you don't maintain your privacy, they could easily craft a legal case so thorough against you, that no lawyer would want to go near it.

They could put together everything you say, all the websites you visit, and all the locations you've been, in such a way that you look guilty of just about any crime. You'd have to completely conform and obey, and talk only about sports and weather to remain guiltless. It'd be a nightmare dystopia.
 
Us real humans actually DO enjoy frisking the lines between "conformity" and "deviancy". Most of us are good people who don't ever actually cause harm upon anyone else, but with so many corrupt laws and unjust policies, it's quite hard to live an average life without breaking laws.
 
And that's where encryption comes in. Protect yourself. Protect your friends. Don't talk about secrets unencrypted, or you'll be breaking your friend's trust in you. If you spill secrets to a friend, but the government is listening, then you just revealed your most intimate parts of yourself or your friends to the government, or whoever else is listening.
 
Be safe. Use encryption for all conversations.
