### I am not talking about Collecion Power

But the simple fact that the **level of cards** required to play somewhat successfully in League X has become insanely high. I have been playing Splinterlands on and off for I guess 3 years now. That is actually kinda crazy in itself if I think how many hours I have put into the game... But since I enjoy playing it, it's okay. But back then one could play in **Champions league** with cards at level 2 or 3! 

What then happened with new players and more cards was to be expected: as players leveled up their cards the level requirement to be able to play at a certain league was increased. This didn't just happen in a matter of months, but over years (which is good). **But now I need level 6+ cards to be able to play in Gold.** That is kinda crazy... I mean this is getting pretty close to a maxed out deck now and I am not even playing in Diamond.

### So this got me wondering; **where are things heading?**

If this trend continues, soon I will need level 8-10 cards to be able to play in gold. And by soon I mean like at the end of this year. This of course does not make any sense, because if I have a maxed out deck, I should surely be able to play in **Diamond** or **Champion**, no? And what about the players now playing in those higher leagues? 

I suppose one positive side to this is that it will come more and more down to the **skill level of a player**. If everybody has high level cards, the outcome of the battle will actually be dependent on your knowledge of the cards as well as the rule set. If so, this would be an amazing achievement of a game, since it is hard to make a **play to earn** game mostly about skill and not about your amount of investment into the game. 

One problem of course, is that it is getting really **quite challenging** to have an overview of the game. There are now so many cards and even 3 rule sets that it is a challenge to be able to pick the right cards in 3 mins. Gone are the days, when you could always win with a couple of certain card selections. But overall this is good. We want a game to be challenging. But I suppose it could get out of hand if we continue to introduce one whole new card edition every year with expansions. But then again, one could simply play in the MODERN format.

### The game play will dramatically change once **LAND** arrives. 

We are supposed to get **items and spells** that we can create with the resources we gather. These will impact the battles directly by being able to view the battle field and then choose e.g. a spell. This spell will probably buff or nerf your or the enemies abilities/stats, thereby probably greatly increasing the chance of winning a battle. This will obviously require a lot of fine tuning, since they shouldn't be too powerful, but also not too weak (otherwise nobody would want to create them and LAND would lose it's purpose). 

But this will again **complicate things**. Now you will have hundreds of cards to choose from, 3 potential rule sets AND items and spells to use... Is it all too much?

I suppose we shouldn't complain too much, since it is good to have a challenging game; but what the team will have to watch out for is that **the game still remains enjoyable to play**. If so, then I actually feel the direction the game is heading is good overall. But if it gets too difficult and too expensive to play then the game will come to a crashing halt...

One silver lining is that currently **renting out cards is super cheap**. It is cheap to rent out level 6+ cards and the rewards from playing the game does pay off. Will it stay like that once LAND will consume millions of cards? For the sake of the player base and new players, I do hope so!
