There’s a saying in my dialect that if a farmer really sits down to think about the stress and pain involved in farming, he might not feel like giving out his produce for free. Honestly, that’s so true. Farming is not easy at all. It takes a lot of physical work and mental strength. From preparing the land to planting, weeding, and finally harvesting,  it’s a journey filled with sweat and patience.

But in all of that, farming is very important. It puts food on our tables and helps feed the nation. If farmers stop working, there’ll be serious hunger. That’s why I have deep respect for anyone who works the land, no matter how small their farm is.

It’s been over three months since we planted maize in our garden, and I’m happy that some of it is now ready for harvesting. Because we planted at different times, not all of them matured at once. I’ve harvested some already, and the ones I picked are already peeled. I plan to process them into pap. At least that saves me from buying maize from the market.

Harvest time really brings joy to every farmer. It’s like your reward season; the moment you see the fruits of all your hard work. No matter how tired you were while planting and weeding, once you start harvesting, you feel fulfilled.

Aside from that, I had to get someone to help me apply herbicide in my cassava garden. I was too tired to keep clearing the place manually. I’ve cleared that land three times this year, but once it rains heavily, the weeds come back quickly. The herbicide sprayed last week is already working; the weeds have started turning brown.

Herbicide helps a lot. It saves time, reduces stress, and keeps the farm neat. But if you use it too much or carelessly, it can harm the soil or even affect your crops. So, I try to be cautious with it.

Farming is hard, yes,  but when you harvest, it makes everything worth it.
