Trending Page MUST be Fixed and not Removed
Just thinking loudly here after having posted [this](https://steemit.com/steem/@toofasteddie/the-trending-page-is-burning) yesterday and after reading and replying on an [amazing post](https://steemit.com/steem/@acesontop/the-psychology-of-group-sustained-growth-not-circle-jerking) of @acesontop in which many of us were talking about the weird look of the **Trending Page** as well as its uselessness as a "presentation card" for the Steem blockchain.

This time I don't want to talk about how stupid are usually TOP 10 posts on the Trending Page list, I think it is obvious and for sure everybody agree with the fact that the majority of them are worthless, independently if they try to fix the SBD price or increase the STEEM scarcity which are projects that may work or relief a little the pressure on the STEEM blockchain but are not helping at all on our image there.

I think that the **TRENDING PAGE** has to be our main "Business Card", not only by internal users but also, very importantly, by external newusers and investor prospectors.

Any social network has a sort of TRENDING page and so we need it here at the STEEM blockchain, the only we have to do now, as we have done with other major problems is to fix it. And, by fixing I mean **we have to find a better way to show there what we want to be shown**.
And, of course, what we want to be shown there not always is related with the projected rewards. We obviously do not want to show 2 or three SBD potatos and Burn Post on top of the trending page because they don't have any content to share, so, they are not interesting for anyone searching worth readable posts or projects aside of the good intentionality of those posts.

In my opinion, what we would like to see on top of the TRENDING PAGE are posts, of course, upvoted but mostly commented, replied and resteemed... the more the better.

If a particular post or topic generates participation on the community, it would deserve to be in the trending page, independently if it is a photography a well-written story, a sort of cooking receipt etc...

No matter if the post reaches 100$... I would not care of it if it is not VALUABLE IN CONTENT and, according to my understanding, something valuable generates comments, replies and resteemings besides upvotes.

### We have survived to a very long time trying to improve the Economics, the curation rate, the rewarding curve, the Resource Credits, downvote system... all in all, a sort of very complicate algorithms which have solved many problems here and, at the same time, have created others, hopefully of lower importance...now, @steemit , and all steem developers and top 20 witnesses, could you please tell me why is so complicated to FIX the TRENDING PAGE?

They don't care that much about it I guess and I will detail more about that in a future post. 

Your idea of a new trending post is definitely worth pondering on and I have had some other good one from @mstafford in a comment on my last post, something about multiple trending pages based on apps and communities/hives. 

There are fixes for this damn page, it's simply that the ones having the tools to do something about are not interested in applying them.

I only show people the main page of @steem.leo .  It's not jumbled with garbage and has interesting content for people familiar with crypto.  My thought is that nobody is really looking at steemit unless it is linked too in a crypto article or something.  When doing outreach I do it with steem.leo

It *shouldn't* be difficult, really. It's only complicated because the trending page is explicitly correlated to rewards, and what's highly rewarded is mainly influenced by a small number of users. Current "Trending" page should be renamed to "High Rewards" or something like that -- and each site should focus on developing their own trending page.

I like your idea of using an aggregate from the # of votes, # of comments (excluding automatic comments from all the usual suspects), # of replies to comments, and # of resteems. Considering the fact that "rewards" can be influenced greatly by a single individual, it should almost certainly be excluded from the equation.

All that said -- I still think each interface (Steemit.com, steempeak.com, busy.org, steeve.app, esteem, partiko, dtube, appics, sportstalk, palnet, dlike, dpoll, dsound, etc) should each strive to develop their own "Trending Algorithm" because the content on each is likely quite different:

* Maybe dSound / dTube should be based on an aggregate that includes the # of times each song /video has been played -- not just comments and votes;
* perhaps dPoll should ONLY consider # of votes cast;
* Maybe all of these various sites should consider the timing that votes / comments are made as well. Is something truly trending if people only comment / vote in the first 5 minutes? That's probably more indicative of people having auto-votes / auto-comments set up, and they're probably not even reading / consuming said content. Compelling / trending content would continue to gain attention long after the "Reverse Auction" window.

I'm assuming that part of the reason why it has taken so long to fix / change the trending page is because it's not really representative of any individual project, so there hasn't been a coordinated effort / desire / drive to change it.

Trying to make a one-size-fits-all or one-page-showcases-all solution
