*Failure is a friend dressed up like an enemy. - The Art of Work page 61 by Josh Goins*

---------------------------------------------------------

**You should never fail.**

This has been the mindset that some people instill in their children. May it be school, work, or probably a business venture it has ingrained this idea in us.

*Failure is not an option to some* and at times it holds true, especially in life and death situations. Maybe this is why I never ever dreamt of being in the medical field when I was studying in college. Back then, nursing courses were in-demand and a lot of my classmates went on this route.

Our high school is near a hospital, thus they gave scholarships to some.

But as we go in life, little do we understand that failure is an inevitable process.

In one of the verses of the song Tao Lang by Loonie and Quest *Madadapa ka muna bago ka matutong lumakad* - You will fall first before you can start walking it reminds everyone that there is a process to be followed to achieve one's goal.

How do I see failure?

I see them as a disappointment, not only to myself but to the surrounding people. I am getting stressed and my system shuts down automatically.

At work, I recall a case where the compliance team did not submit tax exemption documents on time. It is my account, and because I wasn't able to review it properly, taxes were charged and then got disputed afterward.

It was a chain of multiple emails and phone calls. This got escalated to the vice president of operations as well and I received an incident report which hindered my promotion. The cool-off period was one year, and I waited for almost two years to get that promotion.

What changed after?

From the moment that I got an escalation, as of writing now I am the key person for exemption documents. It was a good wake-up call for me to do the job further because of that failure.

Reflecting on that, I can say that in order for us to grow, we need to fail at times. If you haven't experienced defeat, one way or another you will.

You can also learn from the failures of others so that you can avoid them hopefully. But then again, experiencing it personally can give you a chance to see yourself grow. Learn from them and move forward in life.

Failure is an inevitable process that we all have to go through in life. While some people see it as a disappointment and get stressed, it is important to understand that failure is a chance for growth.

We had a conversation last night with this lady at home who will be studying in England by September...she's in hesitation to whether take up her passion (music) or be practical (any course that could give her job instantly, business related for instance)....

As for me, i want her to be practical first before pursuing her passion since no one in her family supports music.. I just told her that, if she can't get the encouragement and support she need from her family, get it from herself.... Get a job first, then pursue her passion after...but if she can handle both, then why not...
However, she was uncertain when she thought about the possibilities of forgetting her passion once she chose to be practical which is somewhat true in some cases...

I just told her that she's still young and shouldn't be worried much about it..things change... Who knows, she might get some inspiration abroad and her passion might change as well..she might encounter something big that could give her better life in the future..just don't stop dreaming, believe in herself, and never lose hope..

Just sharing this although a bit off topic 😅...
It's okay to failed sometimes but we shouldn't stop dreaming..we learn from our experience and encounter new possibilities.. But for sure, after some failures, there'll always be a new beginning and more room for opportunities..

We become who we are because of those failures..

Hey Jane, apologies for the untimely response here. Not been feeling well these past few days and don't have that much energy to comment and curate other stuff ( still active in Discord though for the latest happening.)

At times, our situation is the one that hinders us from achieving what we want in life. Been in that situation too, when I was at a crossroads whether to pursue a degree or go back to work again since finances were already depleting. There are regrets... as I chose work but still there's an un-lived life waiting for it to happen.

> However, she was uncertain when she thought about the possibilities of forgetting her passion once she chose to be practical which is somewhat true in some cases...

These are valid and a lot forgot about their dreams after hitting the earning phase. Hopefully she can do both, or still practice while working.

> We become who we are because of those failures..

Love it! Our failures helps us to grow and mold us to be a better version of ourselves ! LUV !PIZZA

I'm writing from Nigeria and where I come from, commerce (buying and selling goods) is the main economic activiity. I have created one or two business ideas which failed but I still kept on pushing until now that I have been able to start up a thriving mentoring program for entrepreneurs .

So far me, failure is part of a building process for eventual success.

I love the perseverance there! I might have stopped if I am not winning twice but you take everything into learning and now working on mentoring others too! I read something that the best application of learning is through mentoring cool!

I agree failure is a part of life that makes a person more mature in making life decisions. Failure is one of the best teacher in life, it all depends though on how you react on it. Its a matter of choice, either you use it to be better or let it destroy you.

> Its a matter of choice, either you use it to be better or let it destroy you.

When we are in the heat of the moment, we only see the negatives of failure. Self doubt and anger kicks in. It is hard to admit that there's a lesson behind such unless we practiced seeing the good in everything on default. A human brain can see the negative first.

We can be better for sure in the long run with such failures. Most of our life lessons are from there too.
