Dash announced the release of version 12.2 on Wednesday, 08.11.2017. With the release, the block size is increased to 2 megabytes (MB) and transaction costs are reduced to near zero. The upgrade sets in contrast to Bitcoin according to the "Dash Evolution" Roadmap on an on-chain solution for scaling.

Already at the beginning of 2016, there was a vote in the Dash Community (under the Masternodes), in which an overwhelming 99 percent voted in favor of increasing the block size from 1 to 2 MB. Thus, Dash will (presumably) be able to execute 48 transactions per second. In comparison: Bitcoin creates about 7 transactions per second with 1 MB.

Contrary to the top dog Bitcoin, who apparently opted for an off-chain scaling solution (Lightning) with the rejection of the SegWit2X fork, Dash pursues an on-chain strategy. The increase in block size will occur as part of the on-chain scaling plan announced earlier this year, with which the developers behind Dash want to show that scaling is possible on the block chain.

It is also important to know that an extension of the blocksize would have been necessary, as the current size of 1 MB is sufficient for the current transaction volume. However, according to Dash's CEO, long-term goals and high volatility in the markets mean that they want to be ready for future developments.

# Transaction costs at Dash drop to zero

<br>The second major innovation brought about by Dash 12.2 is a 10-fold reduction in transaction costs. With that, Dash Transactions should now sink less than one US cent and instant send transactions to 2.8 US cents. Here too, Dash pursues a different strategy than Bitcoin. According to Dash's CEO, low transaction costs should be an important foundation for the long-term development of the network.

# Dash Evolution: Digital Currencies for Everyone

<br>In June of this year, Dash Roadmap version 2.2.1 was released and Dash Evolution announced. According to the roadmap, the goal was announced that Dash should be the first mass-market and scalable currency platform that is actually suitable for everyday use. The evolution will take place in three phases and with each new version / upgrade the processing performance, the user-friendliness, the functionality and the scalability of the network will be improved. The upgrade to version 12.2 represents the first step to the "Dash Evolution".

With a market capitalization of over € 2.2 billion (as of November 28, 2017), Dash is the sixth largest cryptocurrency in the world. The price has risen from 230 euros on 5 November to almost 300 euros.
