I've heard countless times that "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" and that younger people are the ones who are to be learning and educating themselves on their "career path".

I think these notions are way off from reality. You certainly can teach an old dog new tricks if the old dog has the motivation to learn something. 

The same goes for people... As people age they tend to think there is less and less for them to learn and less and less of a reason for them to learn...

This is all a load of nonsense. It's ALWAYS important to learn. There's ALWAYS a reason to learn. 

Learning facilitates the mind's growth. When you learn one thing, you'll find that you've become better in nearly everything else that you do. 

Whether you're a school teacher, a doctor or an engineer... Learning any new skill will help you in your field.

But the point I'm trying to make is that learning transcends a "career path". Learning is what keeps us alive and growing and moving forward. Learning can be considered the very life source that we draw our daily energy from. 

You'll noticed that those who are depressed or have a lack of motivation from day to day tend not to learn anything new. They don't read, they don't write, they don't listen... Their intent is not to learn but to just make it through life. Therein lies the core of their suffering: they haven't made the conscious decision to learn something new each day. 

I guarantee you that if you make that decision to learn just 1 new thing each day, you will live a much happier and more fulfilled life.
