<em>G.I. Joe</em> is one of those classic franchises that suffers from a severe lack of representation in gaming. <em>Transformers</em> used to be right there with the “American Heroes”. While the giant robots changed their gaming fate with Michael Bay’s entries, <em>G.I. Joe</em> was still on the out. It seems that we are finally going to get a G.I. Joe game that is worth playing.

<h2>G.I. Joe is ripe for gaming</h2>
Honestly, the last game I can remember being based on <em>G.I. Joe</em> was for the Nintendo Entertainment System. There was also an arcade game from around that time though I cannot remember anything about it.

<strong>Why G.I. Joe has been absent from gaming is almost a crime.</strong>

This franchise is simply perfect for gaming. Action? Covered. Covert ops? You can do that too. Visual novel/digital comic? Why not. Racing, car combat, air combat? Again, I can <a href="https://www.amazon.com/s?k=g+i+joe&amp;i=toys-and-games&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;linkId=b6daf3dd58c05002a009574e526c74e2&amp;tag=cwilliams0a-20">easily see a G.I. Joe</a> game based around that. Why no one has done it yet is beyond me.

<em>G.I. Joe Operation Blackout</em> seems to be covering a lot of those bases (outside vehicular combat anyhow).

<h2>A mix of genres</h2>
While the apparent idea of <em>G.I. Joe Operation Blackout</em> is to be a third person action game, there is more here. I hope they keep the comic book style story panels. It is a nice touch calling <a href="https://www.amazon.com/s?k=g+i+joe&amp;i=dvd&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;linkId=84f5fb44d94b31d43dcde3c56f7e48fa&amp;tag=cwilliams0a-20">back to the 80’s</a>.

I am not a big fan of cell shading, but it appears to be used sparingly here. Thank goodness.

Fans will finally be able to not only play some iconic good guys but baddies too. From Duke to Baroness (hot without showing any skin) to Cobra Commander and the dueling ninjas and more.

What is shown in the trailer above is impressive, I just hope they can hold it together. Fans of the franchise need an entry to gather around and support.

I just hope this is the beginning and we get more entries, in different genres. Seriously, who would not want to play a covert ops game as Snake Eyes? What about a brawler with characters like <a href="https://www.amazon.com/s?k=sergeant+slaughter">Sergeant Slaughter</a>?
