If you were fortunate enough in the mid 1990’s you probably had the Sega Channel. Odds are, considering how limited that service was, you were not *that* fortunate. I am right there with you. Sadly, this was the only official way to play Sega Genesis ports of the first three Mega Man games in Mega Man – The Wily Wars. Capcom never saw fit to officially release this on cartridge (though fans have since fixed that) and I do not believe they made it available on more modern online platforms either. Oh well, now we can add Mega Man 4, 5, and 6 to this style of re-release, thanks to fans of course.
A great idea that too few companies exploited
Companies have been taking the original game and porting to more modern platforms for years. Often, these were straight ports and collected a handful or more games together. Wily Wars was unique because it was like a remaster of sorts. Capcom had taken the time to redo the graphics and sounds of the first three Mega Man games when porting to the Sega Genesis. It was interesting and it was something that set this release apart from others of the time. Too bad they did not continue this on Saturn and PlayStation, and more recent platforms. Sega was horrible at this, they collected various Genesis games and re-released them on compilation cartridges, or CD for Sega CD, with little to no alterations. Such a wasted opportunity.
In come the fans
First, this is not a hack of Wily Wars. According to the [Itch.io page](https://woodfrog.itch.io/mega-man-the-sequel-wars-episode-red), this port is coded in C using the SGDK (Sega Genesis Development Kit). This means no patch file and no needing to track down a ROM that you legally do not own. What you get with this release, creatively referred to as Episode Red, is a full remake of Mega Man 4. Mega Man 5 and 6 to follow later in future releases. The graphics and sounds have been redone in the style of 16-Bit action games making use of the Sega Genesis hardware. Fans that are wanting more than just prettier graphics can play as Proto Man, who can deflect bullets, and Roll who is armed with a broom for close fighting. Head over to [Itch.io page](https://woodfrog.itch.io/mega-man-the-sequel-wars-episode-red) to grab your copy of Mega Man The Sequel Wars. All a classic of retro games, mega man I think it was one of those games that should have continued even improving with the passing of time, it was complicated. I remember I had it on an emulator many years ago. !LUV

They could have definitely continued improving the Mega Man idea through the various gaming eras For instance, why did they never make a Mega Man First Person Shooter game? The game is literally running and shooting, it would have just been a different view. It would have been awesome to see Mega Man take a development style similar to that of Metroid. They could have kept the 2D style going on portables and 3D, plus Hi-Def 2D, on consoles. Why Capcom never did that, I have no clue.
