For many of us, Doom is a running benchmark of sorts with the whole “can it run Doom” trope. One reason Doom is so popular in running on anything, it is also popular due to mods that make it nearly a brand new game. Total conversions were what we called these back in the day, they are apparently mods now. Whatever, same thing. This one I am talking about here is called Mod Lab: Resident Evil, or at least that is the title of the video below. How this came to be is quite interesting.

Even Umbrella Corporation Would Not Have Tried This

[YouTube creator, U42]( https://www.youtube.com/@U42R) has many interesting Doom mod videos available so definitely check out their channel. Show them some support so they might keep covering new mods. For now, Mod Lab: Resident Evil, maybe later I will cover some of the others, or another Hivian will.
Mod Lab seems to be their designation for “let’s throw everything, including the kitchen sink in and see how it plays” but here, I am using it to help with search do distinguish this from Capcom’s work.
U42 has taken 11 Doom 2 mods and implemented them all at one time. Talk about an idea that is right there but seemingly overlooked by most gamers. I thought this combining many mods would have resulted in a mess, but it appears to have created quite an interesting game.

A Unique Experience for Resident Evil Fans

I point out Resident Evil fans here because I don’t think this is going to be something that attracts Doom fans. The action appears to be slower paced, more methodical than a Doom level. Most Doom fans are after that frenetic gameplay, the fast action, monsters around every corner ready to take your head off. While there are zombies and other creatures in the levels, they are much slower paced and seemingly easily dispatched, almost the exact opposite of Doom design.
I personally love seeing mods like this. I never thought it would work combining several but it apparently did here. I wonder what other mods could be combined to create a unique gaming experience. Maybe a Batman versus Aliens combination? The sky seems to be the limit with Doom and Doom 2 so it may happen.
What other games would you like to see “Doomified”? Before you answer, check out U42’s channel to see if they have already covered it (they have a TON of cool mods featured over there).
