Sega Dreamcast Plugin for Unity Work in Progress

Unity is one of the more popular 3D engine software suites available right now. Tons of programmers know how to use it, then there are people like me making video content with it. Back to the point of this article. Nai Adventure, [of Metal Canary fame, also on Sega Dreamcast)]( https://hive.blog/hive-140217/@triverse/new-version-of-metal-canary-scrolling-shooter-for-dreamcast-shown), is behind this plugin for Unity. Oh, and the plugin is already producing results.

<h2>Opening A Whole New World to the Sega Dreamcast</h2>

I am not trying to get your hopes up that this will somehow allow for porting a modern 2025 high end game to the Sega Dreamcast with the click of a button. I am hoping you are excited about the way this could change what types of games we see released on the Sega Dreamcast.

For those that are unaware, Unity allows the creation of just about anything you can think of. There are even additional plugins, prebuilts, etc that you can purchase/download and install to get a head start on a project.

From fighting games to action adventures or puzzle games to flight sims, you are only really limited by your imagination.

What will likely be impacted with the exports to Sega Dreamcast is overall detail levels. It doesn’t matter if the game is photorealistic if it is 1 frame per minute.

<h2>Already Yielding Amazing Results</h2>

The Liquid Jet is a 3D adventure game coming to Steam and it is shown in the embedded video above running on a Sega Dreamcast. Obviously, the graphics took a hit, but this is also early in development. Exactly where in the grand scheme of release I am not sure.

What is shown is simply mind blowingly cool. Sure, it is choppy when panning around but, please remember, this is still a work in progress. Just imagine where this will be when the plugin in finished.

What type of game would you like to see released on the Sega Dreamcast?
