The Wonderful Medicinal Plants That Await Me!

<i>Today I went up to the land that I am still waiting to move too. ( Yes I'm still waiting) I think I have talked enough about this huge lesson in patience, that the universe has send my way. So instead I will share the wonderful discoveries that I found as I done some more exploring. Last week, I wrote about the mighty Mullein , that is growing on the land and that continues to dry nicely in my truck. </i>

Today was not about harvesting, instead, it was about the wonderful practice of observation and appreciation. I walked around the land with my girls and what we discovered, left me even more eager to move on. Above you can see this beautiful carpet of <b>Borage</b>, which grows in abundance on the land. You know Spring has arrived when the borage appears, such delicate blue flowers amongst a sea of green leaves.

<b>Borage </b>has so many medicinal properties. It is rich in Iron and Calcium as well as Potassium, Zinc, vitamins B and C. It has a calming effect on the adrenal glands and helps to bring them back into balance, which really helps those who suffer with fatigue. You can make a wonderful oil from the seeds, or make an infusion with the oil. I love to add the flowers to my salad. or just pick a few as I walk and eat them. This beautiful star shaped flower, helps you to find your strength and courage when faced with challenging times.

I must say that this sea of <b>Nettles</b> makes me so happy. I have found it really difficult to find nettles in the past, unless I go higher up. But here, well here there are so many patches of these amazing plants. Nettles are full of nutrients and I drank nettle tea everyday when I was pregnant and breastfeeding. It has wonderful astringent properties, which helps to cleanse the body and it is super gentle on our bodies, making it wonderful for treating many dis eases. I can't wait to go back and harvest some.

Next up, is the wonderfully scented <b>Wormwood</b>. I only recently identified this plant here, as I though it was a member of the Thyme family. Because of that, I have yet to utilize this wonderful plant. and that is probably one of the most important lessons in harvesting medicinal plants. If you are not 100% sure, then don't pick it, or use it. Also it looks different to the wormwood, I was used to seeing in Ireland.<i>  As the name suggests, it has amazing anti parasitic properties. It acts as a anti inflammatory as well, making it work well as a pain relief and also for arthritis as well. It is also helpful for those who suffer with digestive problems. You can infuse the plant in water to make a tea and take it throughout the day.</i>

 And now onto the wonderful <b>Wild Fennel</b>. This as one plant that I also used a lot when I was pregnant and breastfeeding as it really helps with indigestion and helps to soothe babies when they are having difficulties digesting our milk, especially if we have eaten very strong tasting foods. This is another plant I love to pick and eat as I walk around. It is a wonderful addition to your diet as it helps to cleanse our bodies. Drinking an infusion of this wonderful plant, also helps with respiratory illness as it helps to expel mucus, plus it tastes delicious. Oh and the seeds, I love to add them to my sauerkraut and to many of the dishes I make.

This next one, proved rather difficult to capture in a photo, i took so many but you can barely see it. Especially with the other greenery in the background. But it is there, thrust me. It is the all healing <b>Shepherd's Purse</b>. This plant has white flowers and love heart leaves (if you look closely you can make these out), which kind of resemble purse's, hence the name. (I will return again and try and get a better picture, for identity purposes) It s wonderful plant to help stop bleeding, the tincture works amazingly well for women that are hemorrhaging after birth, I have witnessed this myself. It is a wonderful tonic, strengthening up our organs and boosting our immune systems. It can be taken as a an infusion, to help with diarrhea and urinary tract infections.

So beautiful, good for you, @trucklife-family! Since you're so appreciative and knowledgable about plants and the true medicine they create, got a question for ya. 

Knowing how it's an accumulation of enviornmental and other factors that make us sick, (terrain theory) I've been experimenting with alternatives to household cleaners, detergents, etc. I'll likely publish my findings.  Anyhoo... I've concluded that we never again have to buy fabric softener, to name but a one. If you put tangerine peels in a bowl, saturate with water, you can let this sit for up to a 2 days. They produce a ton of oil, actually!

This oil is perfect for adding to freshly washed clothes, one a time, for now. Have to scale up still. 

Same can be done with lemons. IF you like your clothes lemon fresh, you'll never be happier!!

Epsom Salt and coconut oil are other possible ingredients we can use. I became quite suspect a couple years ago when I saw the big manufacturers adding coconut oil to their brand name fabric softeners.

Thanks so much @canusapatriots. I have been making washing detergent out of wood ash for a few years now, you can also make it with ivy. Vinegar and lemon are my go to for cleaning inside my truck. I never use chemicals. You should write a post xxxxx

So good to learn about your level of skilz/knowlege, @trucklife-family. That's a welcome new lesson learned for me, about ivy > wood ash > detergent. TY. 

I also use vinegar in fine mist spray and squeeze bottles, replacing almost entirely, Windex and other chemicals. 

Wanna share how, on three separate occasions, tree oil was used to actually cure fairly significant ailments, in short order, avoiding the powerful and toxic antibiotics. Which category u think I should post in?

Hello, happy Saturday @trucklife-family! What a beautiful and helpful post, as you offer valuable information regarding plants that many people may not know about, but are wonderful for our health and nutrition. A variety of borage grows in tropical areas, but this one is smaller and with white flowers, which is extraordinarily effective for respiratory tract conditions, whether consumed in infusions and applying baths with it. Mother Nature is truly incredibly loving and kind to all her creatures. Greetings.

Oh it's so wierd that as spring comes, all the SAME plants are flowering and coming into abundance as there are here in summer! We just drove through Tassie and saw heaps of mullein and wild fennel on the roadside - I saw your post come up but have been too busy to reply plus reception in and out. I'll catch up through the week and probs write my own mullein post too! I'm so in love with this plant and goodness how BIG are the leaves!
